I am a Rock
This small round stone
Has warmed in my hand
It is smooth and colorful
From where did it come?
Perhaps the hinterland
How did it get here?
Who has held too?
Was it part of something
much bigger
Or just a rock in the fescue?
Energy from the pebble
Is soothing my soul
I am connected to nature
At peace with myself
And feeling ultimately whole
Christine Bolton – Poetry for Healing ยฉ
In response to D’Verse Poets Tuesday Challenge from Sarahย Mindfulness
We were asked to hold an object for a period of time and then write about it.
Something solid to grasp that gives us confidence. I like that. Every time I see that title “I am a Rock!” I thing of Simon and Garfunkle’s song!!
Yes, me too! One of my favorite songs and Paul Simonโs Word were sheer poetry ๐
Very powerful for sure!
This is very nice… the connection through that smooth rock seems so real
Thanks so much Bjorn. Iโm so pleased you liked it ๐
This is lovely Christine…our musings take us anywhere.
Thank you Punan ๐. Yes lifeโs little escapes, precious.
I do that, pick up small stones and hold them, and I too often feel they are holding me, there’s something about stones and rocks
Yes! Definitely an energy ๐ Thanks for reading.
๐
So inspiring and liberating, dear. Thank you for putting this out there.
Thanks Ragazza ๐
Stones and pebbles are wonderful things to hold. I love the way they soak up the heat from my hand and I love the way you’ve conveyed that in your poem, Christine.I also love the way you explore not only the stone but also its origins and its soothing power.
Thank you Kim. Iโve always felt that way and it seems from the responses to this poem, I am not alone ๐โค๏ธ
I like the way the pebble connects you to nature, and to other people. We are part of a complex network. And there’s something so soothing about a rounded stone.
Yes! Thank you so much Sara ๐
I like the question about who has held the rock before.
Yes, it always makes me wonder ๐
yes i feel the energy you have created here too Christine, that rock could have traveled to you and be held in the same fascination by people and creatures you never knew. all connecting us with each other, imprints we leave can sometimes be picked up when we hold them
Yes exactly Gina! It soothes me to think that way ๐
Your rock of ages
Turns many pages
๐ Thanks for reading Ivor
That you held it and felt the permanence of it, It connected you to the ageless past and gave you tranquility, timeless!
Yes, that’s true. I find it very calming. Thanks for reading it . ๐
I also like holding small stones and wondering about them.
I find them very therapeutic! ๐
I love this, Christine. I could feel healing from the pebble too. Jordan
Thank you Jordan. I’m happy you liked it ๐
Rocks are so grounding, ‘connecting’ as you say – lovely.
Thank you so much ๐
