This Christmas will be white But not with virgin snow The tree is bedecked with tinsel But it twinkles minus the glow The festivities a non-event The food just a necessity The only present to unwrap Was the gift of a penalty Without someone to love The holiday holds no appeal A person alone can be Regarded as a fifth wheel Composing yourself for The inevitable questions Answering with white lies Avoiding unwanted suggestions Eventually it will be over and be gone for another year Next time it might be different Perhaps I could disappear
I enjoyed your poem, and can relate 100%. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you. Even if we are with someone this year I can remember many lonely ones. Some are even lonely in a full room 😢. Hope yours is happy this year 💕
I have always hated the thought of anyone on their own for Christmas, and on several occasions we invited friends or family to us for dinner. Two years after my FIL died, my MIL said she wanted to spend the day on her own. There was no changing her mind, so we made sure she had whatever she needed and just rang her on Christmas Day. She said it was the best Christmas she’d had for years. Oh well.

Yes I can completely understand that. It can be a chore for someone who might have spent hours of work and worry for many years, and a lonely nightmare for others. Sad either way 😢. Hope yours is happy this year!
We’re looking forward to a nice quiet Christmas Christine, just the two of us and the dog. Hope yours is happy too and all the best for the coming year.

It understandable. And the inquisitive and intrusive nature of people can’t be changed.
Very well expressed Christine. May you have a lovely Christmas! 🎄💞

Thanks you, Christine! You are so right about being lonely in a room full of people. I hope your holiday is happy as well.
