First Love

First Love

We have always been together
Since you were a little girl
and I was just a sapling

You shared your deepest secrets
and cried underneath my boughs
I was here when you were grappling

I loved you and protected you
and I watched you grow into
a beautiful young woman

To let go of you now
when you need me the most
would be inhuman

Tell me what troubles you my child?
Has someone broken your dear heart?
Why are you weeping?

You finally calm your mind
and look at me with big teary eyes
and tell me your heart is leaping

You are not feeling sad
Quite the opposite, you say
Your heart is full to bursting

You have fallen in love
with someone so special
and he has asked for your hand

You are going to move away
Leaving me alone without you
It has already been planned

Now my heart feels broken
My sap begins to seep
I will be alone in this meadow

You hug me one last time
Promising to return one day
and I just weep like a willow
