Heritage
Mollusk crusted rock
In the ancient midden
Reflecting the life
Of times long hidden
History for us to unravel
In these gifts preserved
Stories of ancestors
Thoughtfully conserved
Uniformly collected
Treasures of times gone by
Chronicles the account
Of what happened, and why
Years of being derelict
Disrespecting our past
Acknowledging the fault was ours
Learning the lesson at last
We must forgive mistakes
Ignorance is not a crime
They knew not the value
Of that place and time

Thank you so much. I’m happy you liked it 🙂💕
Such wisdom in these beautiful lines, Christine! 💞
Thank you so much Punam 🙂💕💕
My pleasure, Christine! 😊💞
Ignorance is such a common excuse these days…
I agree. Ignorance is one of the few things I cannot tolerate. There is no excuse. ASK!
Love the poem.
Make forgiveness possible.
Yes! We must forgive even though we never forget 💕
Very true!
I love the rhyming rhythm and the wisdom here!
Thanks so much Bev 🙂
Beautiful, Christine. Sage insight.
Thank you V.J. 💕
Very welcome
Nice line: “Learning the lesson at last” Hopefully we don’t learn it too late.
For some it will be too late I.e. climate change 😢
Allowing history to negatively effect the present is a bane. you shed light on this and it is a very important truth not all care to see. Thank you.
Thank you Violet. “Forgive them, for they know not what they do”, comes to mind 🙂💕
We cannot love what we don’t understand comes to mind. I love your form here. It suits the ancient memory well.
Isn’t that true Gina! education, no matter the subject, is key. 🙂💕
so true Christine, we must be open to learning
What a lovely poem…forgiveness is indeed difficult but it is not impossible to forgive
Yes! Some people don’t know what they don’t know, if you see what I mean 🙂 You must forgive them 💕
I like this Christine. People in the past 60 years have forfeit the right to say, “we didn’t know”.
So true Rob. Thanks for reading 🙂
Gorgeous poem ❤️
Thank you my dear G 🙂💕
You are welcome my dear 😊
What a beautiful poem. They did not know better. We do now. Forgiveness is difficult to come by, but it must be so in order to move forward.
Yes Hélène. Forgiveness is necessary 💕
🙂
Thank you so much 🙂
