Whipping Post
Tie me to that whipping post
yet one more time
It has become your obsession
to punish what you see as a crime
My expression does not please
the sound of my voice must grate
It is anything, something, nothing
that awakens your hate
Sideswiped without warning
I am at the mercy of your mood
which appears suddenly, no warning
and then begins the feud
Always tempted to fight back
Before reflecting on the cause
I have first to protect myself
from your menacing claws
No time to prepare for what transpires
Buried in the avalanche of your emotion
My eyes and mouth open in surprise
The air as cold as the Arctic ocean
It’s always about you, no thought for me
Escalating tension, words never to return
No winner declared as usual
The situation is now of grave concern

Thank you .. yes! Many of us have felt this I’m sure 😢
You reminded me of the Allman Brothers Band’s song! Very well written. ❤️
Oh my gosh I hadn’t realized they had a song called that! What a coincidence! 🙂💕

I’ll listen now
This is all too real. Painful and dangerous situation, well written.
Thank you 😊
It’s a structured campaign that cannot be won. She chooses wisely who walks away from that mess. Good poem, Christine.

Thanks Sadje. She is saying enough is enough 😞
