Anticipation
As the last rays of sun
stretch down to touch the earth
and the final leaf falls from the tree
I will still be here, waiting
for you and all that it is worth
Let the darkness come
and smother me with dread
For I will soon know
whether you will finally come
or my fear will tear me to shreds
A lifetime spent in anticipation
of this moment to arrive
When love be requited
and we are together at last
so my heart will revive

Ah, the sweet tension really gets to me in this, moving.
Thanks Paul 🙂
All I can say is I hope he shows!
Lol! Yes her should 🙂
I think a moment like that is worth waiting for.
Yes Bjorn! I agree 🙂
This is well written Christine . A frustrating form of waiting. Waiting on love.
Thank you Rob! So nice of you 🙂 Yes a wait that seems endless and likely pointless. It’s how we felt as teenagers
yes, we must have all felt exactly this way:)
Yes for sure Sue 🙂
Oh, I can feel the desperation of waiting in this one. I want to reach in and tell the narrator to move on. Love it when a poem feels real like that.
Thanks Sara! I really appreciate it 🙂
A wonderful poem.
Thanks so much! 💕🙂
A pleasure.
That is a painful waiting for requited love so one’s heart can revive.
Yes, it is! 🙂💕
For I will soon know….
or my fear will tear me to shreds
Brilliant capture of the essence of waiting …
Thanks so much Reena!! 🙂
