Peace

Peace

I feel myself recoiling
and closing down
Shutting out the dissonance
No fight left inside me
One more spiteful remark
will make no difference

Your comfortable chaos
has slowly eaten away
at my core
Calculated and manipulative
Strategically planned
to wound in your war

Peace will only come
in my final retreat
Conceding to the last
Words have left me
As I withdraw from the conflict
and leave you in my past

Who Am I?

Who Am I?

In your shadow
I exist
losing myself
long ago
Content to be here
loving you
and being with you

As years go by
I remember me
The vibrancy
How I’d turn heads
when I entered
rooms full with people
Speaking freely

I could spin a story
and amuse
I would attract
with my voice
and laughter
nightly
Excitement!

This is how you
found me
Drawn to me
by a magnetic pull
and here I stayed
with you as
my private audience

Now, no one knows
my name
I am seen
but no one sees me
Sometimes
I feel the strain
Who have I become?

OctPowriMo - The prompt today is Who am I?
I actually wrote and posted this poem in the
summer. I am rebloggong it as it fits today's
prompt perfectly.

Kindred Spirit

Kindred Spirit

My kindred spirit
we grew at the same time
but thousands
of miles apart
Destiny brought
us together
eventually and
a chance to restart

A connection
from our distant history
Knowing you
but how?
Lovers, perhaps
Yet it is a cruel love
One of deep emotion
Then and now

Could it be
Master and slave
from centuries past?
Crime and punishment
Why else would
love be so jagged?
Hearts that will never mend
Hidden in its diminishment

Is a lesson to be learned
this time around?
I ask as I heal myself
in silence, alone
I am no slave to anyone
At any time
This treatment
I can no longer condone

Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night

Sparks shooting stars
up to the night sky
from the dried,
crackling wood
A child stares
into the flames
mesmerized
where he stood

This night
of fireworks and fire
Bonfires burning
a Guy Fawkes effigy
Spare a penny
for the Guy mister?
Remember, remember
the fifth of November
is the age-old elegy

Sue Vincent's Weekly Write/Photo

For those not familiar with Guy Fawkes day
and why it is celebrated, you can read about
him here

How Did I Get Here?

How Did I Get Here?

It was not meant
to be like this
Searching a lifetime
to be with you
What did I miss?

We had both fallen
in the past
Stumbling in flaky blind love
Mistaken but
finding each other at last

Everything else
was a dress rehearsal
For what was to be
our rhapsody
Never expecting a reversal

We learned our lessons well
or so I thought
only to be derailed
A love and life casualty
and all the pain it brought

How did I get here
in this too familiar place?
Alone and heartbroken
back again
at the start of the race
