Song Lyric Sunday – Greyhound Bound for Nowhere

I was a little stumped by this week’s Song Lyric Sunday prompts from Jim Adamswhich were, Bus, Truck or Lorry. Nothing was clicking with me so I searched Google for some help and it took me down country roads, which is not really my favorite genre. However I came across this really lovely song by Miranda Lambert called “Greyhound Bound for Nowhere”. She wrote the song with her father, Rick, and it was featured on her debut studio album, Kerosene, released in March 2004. She performed it on one of her appearances on Nashville Star, a televised country music singing competition. The show was her springboard to stardom and she went on to be a mega country star.

Miranda’s parents were both private investigators and she recalled the stories she would hear growing up about broken marriages. The song was written about a girl having a relationship with a married man. I hope you like it.

Lyrics
Greyhound Bound for Nowhere
Miranda Lambert

Rain on the window makes me lonely
Time keeps on passing so slowly
The old man sittin' next to me is fallin' asleep
On a Greyhound Bound For Nowhere

The sun's going down on my misery
Another day gone by with broken dreams
That cell phone I hear ringing, I keep wishing it was you
On a Greyhound Bound For Nowhere

That ring that you were wearing don't mean everything
The way that you stood starin' as you watched me roll away
She loves you and you need me and there some things we can't share
I'm on a Greyhound bound for nowhere

Bright lights of a city shining up ahead
My hearts analyzing every word you said
Did you take me for a fool or did you really care
I'm on a Greyhound bound for nowhere

That ring that you were wearing don't mean everything
The way that you stood starin' as you watched me roll away
She loves you and you need me and there some things we can't share
I'm on a Greyhound bound for nowhere

I'm gonna find someplace I can ease my mind
And try to heal my wounded pride

Rain on the window and I'm still lonely
And time keeps on passing so slowly
You're with her and I'm alone and you're wishing I was there
I'm on a Greyhound bound for nowhere
We' re all on a Greyhound bound for nowhere

Miranda Lambert became huge this decade and she seems like a real nice person. I loved your song Christine.

I loved it too Jim. If I’d listen to more country music I’d have heard it years ago!

I’m sure she is. Young beautiful and blonde and singing country. An automatic mega star multi-millionaire πŸ™‚

Good song! And I always like when there’s a back story to the song. Miranda’s parents must have been a treasure trove of country song inspiration for her.

That’s a danged good song, and it could be contemporary as well as country. I like the timing and rhythm of the song, like the greyhound rolling down the road. Real lyrics also.
