Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night

Sparks shooting stars
up to the night sky
from the dried,
crackling wood
A child stares
into the flames
mesmerized
where he stood

This night
of fireworks and fire
Bonfires burning
a Guy Fawkes effigy
Spare a penny
for the Guy mister?
Remember, remember
the fifth of November
is the age-old elegy

I rather miss those old-fashioned bonfire nights. It may be safer and more spectacular in thse days of organised events, but small communities gathering together to share the flames made the old ones magical.

Yes Sue! It took me back to my childhood. It was a big deal in our neighborhood and people would collect old wooden furniture to build up the fire. Thanks for taking me back there with your photograph 🙂❤️

Mine too, Christine. It was always a community affair. <3

I haven’t been to a really good bonfire since my camping days. We really knew how to build fires. 🤗
