Cleansing

Cleansing

Water refreshing skin
washing away tears,
dirt and grime
The ocean carries me
Cleansing my soul
and erasing time

Forgetful of sorrow
Drifting away on waves
Soaking in its energy
A magical sensation
Feeling bewitched
Absorbing the synergy

Touching the horizon
Floating in rhythm
with the birds
Seeing faces in clouds
Escaping madness
No need for words

Song Lyric Sunday – I’ll Stand By You

Good Sunday morning! This week’s prompts for Song Lyric Sunday hosted by Jim Adams, are Lean, Sit and Stand. I have several favorites for each prompt and I’m sure they will all get picked today. I will wait in anticipation!

Today I have chosen “I’ll Stand By You“. The song recorded by the Pretenders is from their sixth studio album, Last of the Independents (1994). The song was written by Chrissie Hynde and the songwriting team of Thomas Kelly and Billy Steinberg. The song pledges love and faithful assistance in times of personal darkness. Released on July 21, 1994, “I’ll Stand by You” reached the top 20 in several countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, the United Kingdom and the United States. It has been recorded by various artists over the years.

Lyrics
I’ll Stand By You

Oh, why you look so sad, the tears are in your eyes,
Come on and come to me now, and don’t be ashamed to cry,
Let me see you through, ’cause I’ve seen the dark side too.
When the night falls on you, you don’t know what to do,
Nothing you confess could make me love you less

I’ll stand by you,
I’ll stand by you, won’t let nobody hurt you,
I’ll stand by you

So if you’re mad, get mad, don’t hold it all inside,
Come on and talk to me now.
Hey there, what you got to hide?
I get angry too, well, I’m alive like you.
When you’re standing at the cross roads,
And don’t know which path to choose,
Let me come along, ’cause even if you’re wrong

I’ll stand by you,
I’ll stand by you, won’t let nobody hurt you,
I’ll stand by you.
Baby, even to your darkest hour, and I’ll never desert you,
I’ll stand by you.
And when, when the night falls on you baby,
You’re feeling all a lone, you’re wandering on your own

I’ll stand by you.
I’ll stand by you, won’t let nobody hurt you,
I’ll stand by you, baby even to your darkest hour
And I’ll never desert you,

I’ll stand by you,
I’ll stand by you.
I’ll stand by you, won’t let nobody hurt you,
I’ll stand by you, baby even to your darkest hour,
And I’ll never desert you
I’ll stand by you

Colors of the Heart

Colors of the Heart

Purple has become
the new color of my heart
Once red with passion
now bruised with your blues
A splattered abstract art

The combination of colors
is resulting in a different hue
The mix is not compatible
and a coalescence will not form
into a heart that will remain true

A perfect blending of shades
would bring harmony to the soul
Balancing the energy
Repairing the heart
Before it becomes as black as coal

First Date

First Date

Feeling jittery and excited
In my stomach
there were butterflies
You will be here soon
I imagine how it might be
and allow myself to fantasize

It is seven o’ clock
and then seven thirty
another 30 minutes go by
Waiting by the window
Anticipating your arrival
and then I begin to cry

Where are you?
Did I get the time wrong
You said you would come
My first real date
Your word is broken
Leaving me quite numb

I cannot comprehend
why you are not here
so I go to your house
I will make you tell me
why I have been stood up
Be accountable, you louse!

Missing You

Missing You

Under the night stars
I lay awake searching
the black, flickering sky
The answers are out there
somewhere hidden
Only seen in my mind’s eye

Sleep does not come easy
My head is full
of crazy notions
Are you looking at the same
cloudless canopy
feeling the same emotions?

Why are we still separated?
So much time has passed
since we were together
We always vowed
Never to be apart
No matter the weather

My love, I call out to you
in the darkness
Please come back to me
I am incomplete
without you
There is no ‘I’ in ‘we’
