Veneer
Full of bluster
and confidence
but you were broken
when I found you
As I peeled away
the layers of
your thick veneer
beneath was
a wretched soul
Beaten and bruised
by life’s tragic sorrows
A product of your
environment
You took no prisoners

It’s sad that so many need the “veneer” to protect them. Perhaps if more people were understanding and empathetic, we would need less protective coating.
Yes! Sadly life has a way of beating us up
Excellent. Powerful words… <3
I just found your comment in the spam box 😢 Thank you so much Colleen, I appreciate your kind words ☺️
No worries. I have the same issues with comments in spam.
🥰 Have a great Monday Colleen
Thank you, Christine, you too. <3
I think that over time the veneer make more damage than protecting.
You have a good point. The veneer no longer peels away. Almost like a flower trying to grow through a tree
Happy to read this one… the question remains, can that wretched soul still be saved?
It’s worth trying 🥰
Agreed. 🤓🙏👍🙌👍🙏🤓
What beatings that soul must have taken!
Yes, it’s sad isn’t it? 😢
It is. You described it beautifully. 💞
It takes years and a lot of battering to build up a thick veneer. I always suspect people of full of bluster and confidence have much to keep hidden away.
Yes, sadly that’s usually the case 😢 Thanks Kim 💕
Poignant!
Thank you 🙂
A pleasure!
after all that peeling what a discovery Christine – a sorrowful quadrille
Thank you so much Gina ☺️
I like your description of a wretched soul beneath the thick veneer.
Thank you Frank 🙂
