Red Cardinal

Red Cardinal

Drops of blood
on virgin snow
Cardinals
vivid in beauty
of plumage
drawing the eye
to magnificence
Red swatches
of boldness
on leafless boughs
Harbingers
of the message
to be heard
Taking flight
towards the sun
Lifting with them
the spirits
of those who see
and understand
their color
and meaning

Looking Back – A Haibun

Just a few weeks ago it was the 35th anniversary of my living in the US.  I came from England, with my first husband and our baby son, to settle in Virginia where he was to begin a new job.

We knew a lot of the States fairly well having visited numerous times however leaving everything behind and starting again in a new country was still daunting.

George Bernard Shaw said the United States and Great Britain are two countries separated by a common language. There was never a truer statement!  I still remember the quizzical looks I would get when I asked someone for help or directions.  It was as if I was speaking with a foreign tongue.  I learned quickly to ask in a certain way and use words that were familiar to the listener.  Strange but true.  It still happens from time to time but these days I just laugh at myself for forgetting.

From across the pond
to land of milk and honey
Beginning anew

Our Lives. To look back at a previously written

Blurred View

Blurred View

Seeing the broken pieces
of what is left
of this fractured life
laying before me
I am unable to make sense
of what is happening

Uncontrollable tears
blur my view
It matters not what
is presented to me
but how I feel
inside my heart

Did I feel it slipping
through my fingers
before it crashed to the floor?
Did I miss the warning signs?
I stare into the sky as
the last light of dusk is fading

Pink hues painted across
the evening canvas
A moment to pause and
wonder at the
beauty before me
but it means nothing
for I care no more

Song Lyric Sunday – I Gotta Feeling

I was happy to see this week’s prompts for Song Lyric Sunday hosted by Jim Adams. He asked us to find songs or lyrics with Touch and Feel. That gave me the opportunity to share a really happy song with you by the Black Eyed Peas. I Gotta Feeling. Enjoy!

The single “I Gotta Feeling” was released in 2009 by The Black Eyed Peas from their fifth studio album, The E.N.D. The song debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and later hit number 1 on the U.S. charts. The song replaced the group’s song, “Boom Boom Pow”, at the top. “I Gotta Feeling” stayed number one for fourteen weeks in the US and topped the charts in 14 other countries. It won the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

In June 2018, the song was certified Diamond by the RIAA for 10 million combined units (streaming and sales) sold in the US.

[Chorus: will.i.am with Fergie]

I got a feelin'
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
Feelin'
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
A feelin' (Wooh-ooh)
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
A feelin' (Wooh-ooh)
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night (Fee-)

[Verse 1: will.i.am & Fergie]

Tonight's the night, let's live it up
I got my money, let's spend it up (Fee-)
Go out and smash it like, "Oh, my God!"
Jump out that sofa, let's kick it off (Fee-)
I know that we'll have a ball
If we get down, and go out, and just lose it all
I feel stressed out, I wanna let it go
Let's go way out, spaced out, and losin' all control
Fill up my cup, mazel tov
Look at her dancing, just take it off (Fee-)
Let's paint the town, we'll shut it down
Let's burn the roof and then we'll do it again (Fee-)
Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it, let's do it
And do it, and do it, let's live it up
And do it, and do it, and do it, do it, do it
Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it

[Chorus: will.i.am with Fergie]

'Cause I got a feelin' (Wooh-ooh)
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
A feelin' (Wooh-ooh)
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
 (Fee-)

[Verse 2: will.i.am & Fergie]

Tonight's that night (Hey), let's live it up (Let's live it up)
I got my money (My pay), let's spend it up (Let's spend it up)
Go out and smash it (Smash it) like, "Oh, my God!" (Like, "Oh, my God!")
Jump out that sofa (Come on), let's kick it off
Fill up my cup (Drank), mazel tov (l'chaim)
Look at her dancing (Move it, move it), just take it off
Let's paint the town (Paint the town), we'll shut it down (Shut it down)
Let's burn the roof and then we'll do it again
Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it, let's do it
And do it, and do it, let's live it up
And do it, and do it, and do it, do it, do it
Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it, do it, do it, do it

[Bridge: will.i.am]

Here we come, here we go, we gotta rock...
Easy come, easy go, now we on top...
Fill the shot, body rock, rock it don't stop...
Round and round, up and down, around the clock...
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Do it)
Friday, Saturday, Saturday to Sunday (Do it)
Weekend get get get with us, you know what we say
Party every day, p-p-p-party every day
