Song Lyric Sunday – Big Love

Plenty of choices to pick from for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday hosted by Jim Adams. The prompts are Big, Large, Little, Small, Tall and Tiny.

I have chosen Big Love by the amazing Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. The video is from one of their tours from the late 90s called The Dance. It’s fun to watch his amazing guitar skills. Hope you enjoy it.

!–

Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham had left the band and wrote this for one of his solo albums, but the project never materialized and he rejoined Fleetwood Mac for the Tango In The Night sessions. Buckingham did not tour with the band, however, so they never performed the song live until 1997, when Buckingham joined for The Dance tour. He performed an acoustic version on this tour.

Buckingham described this song as a “Lustful mid-to-up tempo number featuring love grunts.” These grunts were Buckingham’s processed through an oscillator. Many listeners assumed it was the voice of Stevie Nicks.

Big Love - Lyrics

Looking out for love
In the night so still
Oh, I'll build you a kingdom
In that house on the hill

Lookin' out for love
Big, big love

You said that you love me
And that you always will
Oh, you begged me to keep you
In that house on the hill

Lookin' out for love
Big, big love

I wake up
Alone with it all
I wake up
But only to fall

Lookin' out for love
Big, big love
Just lookin' out for love
Big, big love

I’ve never heard the acoustic version of the song before. Lindsey Buckingham has always been a favorite of mine since he and Stevie joined FM. He is a masterful guitarist. I thought his playing was going to melt the strings. Imagining those hands in all sorts of scenarios. Ooh la la! I still hate Stevie for giving him the boot from the band.

Yes they were quite the dysfunctional lovers weren’t they? However they were the geniuses that turned FM around. One of my all time favorite bands ☺️. Yes this song is amazing.

I love “Big Love” because that is my favorite era of Lindsey’s musicality. I feel like it was a followup to Buckingham’s solo album Go Insane (which I absolutely love). Lindsey is such a talent!
