The Eagle Has Landed – A Haibun

The Eagle Has Landed

I was walking my dogs early one morning last fall and saw a bird flying above.  I knew immediately by the immense span of black/brown wings and striking white head that it was a bald eagle.

To my surprise he landed on a tree just in front of us on one of the lower branches.  We stopped in our tracks and the dogs quietly sat down and none of us moved a muscle.

The majestic eagle stayed in place for at least two minutes while I watched in awe.  I was so excited I wanted to get a photo and of course all I had was an iPhone with two large Labs on leashes, but I managed to get a least one picture, even though it’s a little grainy. (see below).  These moments are like little gifts from Nature.

The Bald Eagle stayed
only for a few minutes but
graced with his presence

What a magnificent gift from nature! Thank you for sharing your photos, though it is less clear than the featured image, it brings the magic and excitement of the moment to life.

Thanks Ingrid. Yes I was struggling with an iPhone and 2 big dogs on leashes. There was no time to get in position or worry about the lighting! LOL 🤣 My picture was so pathetic I had get a proper one from Pixabay.

What a majestic bird! There is something about the eagle that engenders awe. I liked that your digs were silent before the eagle. That says something about how nature is in balance, even when we are not. Lovely words, too.

Thank you Regina. Yes I agree with you about balance in nature. That is why it is so soothing for us. I do wonder about the earth’s imbalance with the way we have been treating it in recent years. Hopefully it will stabilize now that we have new and better leadership 🥰

I know, I’ve missed some beautiful moments for a photo to remind me of what I had seen . When in all reality the moment would have been more memorable. 😕

I danced between the two for years but who really looks at our photos, I may as well take full benefit 🙂

How wonderful to see a Bald Eagle close-up! It really is a gift of nature to be so close to one. Was he going to try to go for your dog??
