I was born right around the summer solstice. I truly am a summer child and come to life each year when the days are longer and filled with sunshine. Overcast days leave me moody and sometimes give me a headache. As I was born and raised in London there were many rainy, grey days which only made us appreciate the sunshine all the more. Even my favorite Shakespeare play is A Midsummer Night’s Dream!
Now, later in life, I live in Florida where it is sunny every day and the weather is never cold. Yes, it rains, but it is warm rain that you can walk in and we always have an abundance of pretty clouds. You could say I am in my element and I am where I was meant to be.

Beautiful being in your element. Mine might be the opposite.
Thank you ☺️ Ah, yes we seem to be drawn to the season of our birth. Hope you are well Jude.
I’ve never looked at it like that. warrants a little bit more research though. i hope i was born in a storm. don’t know if my mother remembers, i have 8 siblings.
Oh how fun, 8 siblings! No wonder your mom might not remember ☺️💕🌺
Hehe, 🙏🏾💜
So happy that you found ‘your place’! A delightful read.
Thank you Susan ☺️🌺
I love summer, but I am so used that you have to treat every day with sunny weather with awe… living in a climate with only summer would stress me out. I need those cloudy days as well.
I do understand that however we do have our grey days too during tropical storms and hurricanes 😦 but the sun, white puffy clouds and blue sky gives us so many entertaining reasons to be thankful for our weather. ☺️👍
Florida is indeed the happy place for a child of summer! Love the image that accompanied your story!
The sunshine makes my spirit sparkle as well. Enjoyed your haibun.
Thanks K ☺️🌺 ☀️ 🌞
I was born in Forest Gate in the East End. Lived there growing up and also Putney for a while and then moved to Chertsey in Surrey when I got married. Not far from Epsom! Then we came to the US and lived in VA and TX and then ended up in FL. ☺️
I feel you, Christine! Though I’m from the UK, I never felt at home in the grey and cold weather. I’m interested to know whereabouts in London you lived? I lived in Finsbury Park for a short time, then moved out to Epsom.
I’m an Autumn child the colour of the leaves turning red, gold and orange fill me with delight. September.
I find this association with birth season so interesting. ☺️
Lovely 💘
How old were you when you moved to the USA?

I was 32. I came with husband and baby. ☺️
Where sunshine lifted spirits
Shadows drained her heart
This is heart-wrenching in a way… maybe, my perspective…
Thank you Rena. I just think the elements affect us in many ways.
I love this piece, Christine. You really are in your element there, especially with Florida. I would have been a summer child too but I was born a little too early lol. Beautifully, gorgeously penned as always! <3 <3
Thank you dear Lucy. You are always so sweet ☺️💕🌺
I love your haibun and the story that goes along with it!
Thanks Dwight. I always appreciate your kind words ☺️
You are welcome! Thank you.
You’re in the right place!
Yes I think I am Sadje ☺️💕🌺
