After several years of having a Twitter account that had barely been used, I have finally cut the cord and I am now Twitterless!
I signed up for a personal Twitter account back in the day but never actually used it. I found it clumsy and was not sure what I ever wanted to say that was relevant, so it was a non starter. When I started my blog I was encouraged to create another account and put a share button on my pages. For a while I linked my posts to Twitter but to a Twitterer it still meant they had to click to see what I was posting. It seems that might have been too much work for many and my Tweets were hardly ever acknowledged. I like to think that the poetry I write for my blog is meaningful and thoughtful and needs to be read slowly and digested. Twitter therefore was not the ideal platform for my work although it can be for many and others thrive in that environment.
I have a wonderful WP follower who posts my work daily on her own Twitter feed but I notice too that no one ever “likes” those posts either. So I asked myself what actually is the point of Twitter to me? The answer was absolutely nothing.
I deleted both accounts the other day after witnessing Elon Musk ride roughshod over his employees and putting their livelihood at risk. The very next day he announced that he had reinstated Donald Trump’s tweeting privileges. Now I know I did the right thing in getting off there!

Word of the day – Platform
Twitter has worked for me but the WordPress link barely works. I have a tiny following that use WP. Most of my readers/listeners to The Happening follow me on Mixcloud & FB. I too am annoyed that the Orange one is back on Twit. I’ve joined mastodonapp.uk mostly to post about my shows and the blogs. I believe blog readers are a different kind of follower from the average Twitter user. I’m staying with it for the time being while my active followers get used to the different platform.
I understand. Twitter should work for you pretty well. Yes WP bloggers do take the time to read and get to know each other. I couldn’t bear the frantic platform of Twitter and the nastiness I saw depending in what the subject matter was. It wasn’t for me. Oh and the Orange Twit, is really an Orange Twat! 🤬 🤣
Early on I liked twitter. It was fun having conversations, but then I found WP and it’s so much better. I still have T but only because I post my blog link, and also my daughter sends me funny videos there.
Yes I am thrilled that we have WP. It is a wonderful supportive community ☺️💕🌺
I left also. I never managed to connect with the twitter poets, and the whole thing was a waste of time…
Yes. Communicating in short bursts used to make me anxious. Twitter is not for poetry in my opinion. Bye-bye Twitter, I won’t miss you.🤣
I also have never got my head around Twitter!
Social Media was such a revolution and it connected many of us around the glove, but it also spawned so much ugliness 😦
Oh! Indeed it did!
It’s the same with me, a few likes from my blogging friends and that’s all.
Yes, so why bother with it? FB I hang on to as my family is far away and I stay connected with them, but i do not use it like I used to. It’s turned some people into monsters 😦
Same here. For connecting to family I think WhatsApp is better and private too.
Yes I have FB for that reason too. ☺️
