In The Lonely Hours – Poem of the Month – December 2022

In The Lonely Hours

In the lonely hours
consumed with the things I cannot control
I drown in the sadness of my life
My decisions, right at the time
are haunting and daunting
Fearing no escape from the gate-less prison
of my choices
Guilt overwhelms as duty reigns supreme
When all seems lost
a caring person breaks the spell
on a mind paralyzed with fear
The words, so simple
but clarifying and freeing

Just walk away

Wow!! Really loved this! Very interesting take on the prisoner’s dilemma – where the prisoner holds the key to freedom! Or like the Monkey trap – where the obvious and simple solution is not even contemplated.

An interesting alternate ending to your last line might be – LET GO – And Run Away!!! Ha.
