In Denial

In Denial

I am living in denial
An island in a sea of fear
Immune from pain
Where no one can hear
the voices always in my head
Sometimes wishing
for a different feeling
and one not of dread

Too frightened to face
what I perceive as inevitable
What we once had
is now possibly irrevocable
How I wish to go back
to the state of happiness
When you loved me
and wrapped me in tenderness

For now I will remain
Neither here nor there
Persistent in this haven
Out of the cruel glare
Praying for an outcome
That I can withstand
To return to you or
forever be in the hinterland

Song Lyric Sunday – Brown Eyed Girl

This week Helen Vahdati's Song Lyric Sunday is "Girls" and I am choosing
Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison.  How can you feel anything but happy
when you hear this song?

Lyrics
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison

Hey, where did we go
Days when the rains came ?
Down in the hollow
Playing a new game,
Laughing and a-running, hey, hey,
Skipping and a-jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our, our hearts a-thumping
And you, my brown-eyed girl,
You, my brown-eyed girl.

Whatever happened
To Tuesday and so slow
Going down to the old mine with a
Transistor radio.
Standing in the sunlight laughing
Hide behind a rainbow's wall,
Slipping and a-sliding
All along the waterfall
With you, my brown-eyed girl,
You, my brown-eyed girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
Just like that
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
La dee dah.

So hard to find my way
Now that I'm all on my own.
I saw you just the other day,
My, how you have grown!
Cast my memory back there, Lord,
Sometime I'm overcome thinking about
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium
With you, my brown-eyed girl,
You, my brown-eyed girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
Laying in the green grass
Sha la la la la la la la la la la dee dah
Dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah dee
Sha la la la la la la la la la la la la
Dee dah la dee dah la dee dah la
D-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d...

Deep

Deep

What you see is what you get
The waters are not that deep
They are transparent and calm
And could lull you to sleep

What is visible on the surface
Is reflected directly below
Nothing is hidden from view
Nor veiled to deceive or shadow

Still waters and calm seas
So you may navigate easily
No blind spots to fool you
Or dangers lurking deceitfully

She has charted your course
You may set sail from the docks
Come to me, sings the siren
Guiding you to the rocks

Eyes Wide Open – Week #23

Good Saturday morning!  Here is another collection of photos from
my world to share with you.  As you have come to know, these are
just everyday photos, of things that catch my eye.  All are taken on
an iPhone.

Hope you enjoy them.  Have a great day!

Local Fish Store

A kayaker at sunset
The late afternoon sun captured in this fountain looked so pretty
A Yellow Crowned Night Heron looking relaxed in the water
Brussel Sprouts are decorative in their natural state, but
I still can't stand them!
A statue of Neptune where he belongs by the sea

Last Call

Last Call

He promised to call her
at half past ten
If only he had known
She wouldn’t be there then

The traffic was a jam
Roads had not been cleared
He was getting anxious
But the familiar box appeared

He trudged through the snow
Coins in his hand
Anxious to hear her voice
They would talk as planned

His call was answered quickly
but the voice unfamiliar
He couldn’t understand
It was most peculiar

I’m sorry sir, the voice said
There is nothing to discuss
The lady in question
Is no longer with us

What? he said, not understanding
The voice was forewarning
But she’s expecting my call
Sir, she died this morning

Cheater

Cheater

The sky was dappled
Like a Monet masterpiece
The characters in her world
She wished to release
The noises in her head
Just would not cease

She had not been ready
When her world came crashing down
Leaving her hurt and confused
Betrayed by that clown
Stripped of her confidence
Shunned by the town

Wandering to the water’s edge
She found her magical place
On the river bank under the tree
Where she would find grace
Fumbling with her feelings
She practiced her poker face

Her determination her cynosure
She returned to her home
Rifling through his things
with a fine-tooth comb
she found the evidence
in a cup of Styrofoam

There it was in plain sight
A locket for his lover
Bearing his and her initials
What a thing to discover
Outraged she knew what to do
She would blow his cover

Quickly she packed his bags
dumping them outside
the locksmith came
She felt fortified
He came a-knocking at the door
Not at home, she replied

Simplicity

Simplicity

The simplicity of the day
A walk in the park
Dog by my side
Who cares if she barks
Breathe in the fresh air
take in the sights
flowering bushes
the hazy morning light

Camera in my pocket
Capturing things I now see
Once too busy to notice
Seeing the beauty of a tree
Stimulating visions of nature
With a coterie doing likewise
Exchanging traditional greetings
With new friendships to initialize

Sitting at the gazebo
Spotting some birds
Writing down my findings
Making poetry from my words
Simple activities of daily life
Fulfilling and pleasurable
Enhancing, enriching
Its gift immeasurable
