Ghost
In fear my heart races
as I pull the covers over my head
and pretend nothing has changed
What I saw was in my head
It is not real, but imagined
Through the bedroom window
I saw you standing there
Looking up at me
Music played through the air
carried along by a cool breeze
Shivering at the sight of you
I recoiled, shrinking back to my bed
It is not you, it cannot be, I won’t let it be
I forbid you enter my thoughts
and invade my dreams
Yet you taunt me with your presence
An apparition stinging old wounds
Still open, raw and unhealed
A ghost from my past
who refuses to die
