Full Moon Madness

Full Moon Madness

Leaves whisper softly underfoot
as a full moon illuminates the night sky
Branches crack in the Autumn wind
and tree trunks let out a painful sigh

Misery resides in the night shadows
waiting for its chance to consume
Love lays dying in the darkness
which no one will ever exhume

Pain a burden carried in heavy hearts
straining under the weight of sadness
Tears fill empty, black, staring eyes
masking the look of madness

No Contest

It hangs there
in the space
above you
Like a threatening
storm cloud
that sits menacingly
above the horizon
as the sun bids
its final farewell

A brewing tempest
of discontent
throwing shadows
on happiness
and harmony
Knowing a fearful
torrent of anger
will be released
in a violent deluge

A rainbow will
appear only to
show its bright colors
for an instant
before they run
into a watery grave
The sweetness
of the day will
be forever soured

Blindness

Blindness

Anger is the fortress
protecting you
Words weaponized
Becoming knives
Wielded in fury
Slashing the air
Until they reach
their target
and blood is drawn

Your victim shrivels
as breath is sucked
from the life of love
Once held
as a gift to you
in her open hands
Now in powdered ash
Slipping through
grasping fingers

If only you could see
beyond the fear
She is your armor
Protecting you
with moral obligation
To love you
and keep you safe
But blindness
remains your disability

Unspoken

Unspoken

A warrior in her own marriage
guarded and alert at all times
Never knowing when the serpent
would commit conjugal crimes

Wondering how she arrived here
he’d pulled the wool over her eyes
Ludicrous that this could happen
and no one there to hear her cries

The more forceful his voice
the less she would protest
Succumbing to his superiority
living a life oppressed

Her words left unspoken
as if language was banned
a prisoner in her own body
much more than she could stand

Hidden Enemy

Hidden Enemy

Bright silver moon
Shine your light
On poor souls
Wandering
In darkness of night

Bewildered
and confused
Led like lambs
to slaughter
Forever Abused

Plague ridden earth
Unwelcome, infecting
Blindly attacking
Oblivious to race
Cleansing, correcting

Cruel and heartless
Boundaries inconsistent
Sucking air from lungs
Drowning in phlegm
The cure nonexistent

Contagion

Contagion

It came from
somewhere
Unexpected
and remote
Invisible
to the eye
Moving quickly
Globally
Devastating
all in its path
Leaving bodies
breathless
Helpless
Those it could
not reach
left vulnerable
and ostracized
Living
in solitude
Collaboration
impossible
Stripped of
dignity
and left
inevitably
penniless
Who is
to blame?
A lesson
too late
for the
learning

Fearfulness

Fearfulness

As darkness falls
who will light your shadows
when the moon
does not appear?
Fearful and afraid
of ghosts from the past
who will protect you?
It is still unclear

Who will guide
you with wisdom
through life’s
temporal minefields?
Lead you through
fire and fury
Harboring safely with
love’s assuring shield

As the sky lights
with daybreak
clarity and possibility
reign supreme
Anxieties wane,
fears subside and
unnecessary nightmares
become a daydream

Caged

Caged

Why?
I ask
Yesterday’s
insanity
Was yet another nail in my coffin
You have now become the demon lover
a gilded cage
my prison
I am
trapped

Caught

Caught

Wearing rose colored glasses
Blinded by the combination
of fantasy and seduction
Drawn into your web of deceit
A tenacious girl interrupted
by silver tongued promises
of a charmed existence
Allowing you to entreat

Slowly your spun gossamer
encased me in its stickiness
Gagging on my words
I took my last breath
Once the life was out of me
I was of no more use
Left hung out to dry
in what was a pitiful death
