Close the Door – A Quadrille

Close the Door

As the day ends
It is time to reflect
on events that were
less than perfect

Annoyances, delays
that did gnaw, irritate
To be tossed away
for it’s time to celebrate

Door closed
a day to forget
My glass is full
Wine’s my outlet

Equalizer

Equalizer

Finally the dregs
of the day drained
away with
the sunset
Taking with them
the sweat and tears
that spilled onto
the remnants of
a dream crushed
Writing the obituary
as it sinks beyond
the horizon
into another time

But the moon
does rise high
into the night sky
shining its light
on the darkness
of what once was
Infusing a delicate soul
with its energy
and brightness
Reassuring
and reminding
tomorrow will
surely come

Mish is hosting D'Verse Poets tonight
and has prompted us with the following quote
“Barn’s burnt down, now I can see the moon.”

Written in the Stars

Written in the Stars

If the stars
could speak
they would say
let the sun into
your black heart
So it may light
your way back
from darkness

Stop hiding in
shadows
disguising
your cynicism
and fear
You were only safe
until the moon
ate the dark

Its silvery sheen
casts its light
on scars
of healed wounds
Fading in time
but no longer
infected by
your pain

Deluge

Deluge

From my mouth
a torrent of angry words
Nonsensical
Running furiously
Stored and stirred
Simmered and boiled
Finally released
in a cathartic gush
An energy that
will take down
anything standing
Swallowing all
in its wake
The dam has burst
and now the river
of discontent
will flow out to sea
and those
tempestuous words
will drown

Taking Flight I

Taking Flight I

As you lie gracefully
in the ashes
of your self esteem,
planning your comeback
The momentum
slowly builds
with your confidence
until you rise
spectacularly
like the phoenix
Fierce
and fearless
taking flight

Epiphany – Poem of the Month – March 2020

Epiphany

Silent sounds
music
to a wounded soul

Pure air
oxygen
to a jumbled brain

Birdsong
soothing
to a fractured heart

Perception
enhanced
by the senses

An epiphany
never
to forget

Calmness

Calmness

Twilight falls quietly
unexpected
What was day
comes to an end
Abruptly,
disconnected

A star is born in
the darkness
of new night
Encompassing,
brilliant in its
starkness

Stillness slows
pounding breast
Calming the mind
slowing the heart
Tranquility
sweetens the zest

In Dreams

In Dreams

That rare moment
when you feel yourself
hanging between
sleep and awake
A euphoric state
you never want to end
Stopping and starting
doing a retake

Multiplying the climax
again and again
until sleep is triumphant
finally surrendering
The mind relaxes
and in dreams you travel
to another world
of visions for remembering

Restoration

Restoration

Here I sit
where troubles
Do not follow
In my solitude
tears come
I sob and swallow

The crisp air
regulates
my uneven breathing
Cares float away
Cleansing my soul
Finally releasing

I draw energy
From the mountains
and warmth from the sun
My life feels balanced
I am now ready
A new day has begun

Resurgence

Resurgence

Emerging from
self-imposed imprisonment
A throne-less queen
walks naked and alone
vulnerable
remorseful
Eyes watching her
every movement

Her sparkle diminished
she wears the grey garb
of solitude and regret
Wishing now
for sunlight to
warm her coldness,
liven her spirit and
pump hope into her heart
