Reunion

Reunion

Like snowflakes falling
Silently in the night
I am unaware of the beauty
About to unfold in my sight

You stand in front of me
After a lifetime of years
Memories roaring back
Bringing with them tears

Separated as teenagers
Daddy with a shotgun
A baby on the way
Our parents come undone

You travel east
And I am sent west
Never meant to be
We were told it was for the best

You served our country
Our baby was adopted
Turning away from my family
It was never what I wanted

I left them all in the past
My spirit had been broken
Living a better life alone
Another word was never spoken

Here you are now
A ghost from before
A buried secret
We could never ignore

Your smile the same
It’s as if no time had passed
The lonely years forgotten
We are together at last

Siren – Poem of the Month – September 2018

Siren

Observing the arcing whales
from beneath the pretty sails
of this schooner
A desired state
is to be with you
in this love drunken stupor

To be enjoyed and saved
our thoughts are enslaved
locked safely away
Always living in memory
to be revisited often
forgetting not these happy days

I hypnotize you shamefully
you come with me willingly
we are united as one
Mesmerizing and sensuous
making outrageous promises
what a web I have spun

Behaving sinfully
sailing blissfully
towards the horizon
I have you under my spell
I am your sea nymph
your nautical siren

Inspiration

Inspiration

Just living in your space
Changes the way
I see this world
My glasses are rosy
I am in a better place

When we connect
Regardless of the level
I am on the train
Riding by your side
I see a future perfect

I am inspired
To achieve my goals
Negativity I decline
I am a renegade
Optimism is required

Life in monochrome
Was dull and empty
My elders ruled my realm
You brought me Technicolor
I find myself now at home

Cliffs

Cliffs

The sea was kissed
by the morning mist
Darkness tarried
as the sun struggled
to be set free

Standing atop the cliffs
a wild picture
of windblown
red hair likened to
the Flame tree

Cloak lifted by the wind
she scanned the horizon
searching for a sign
Praying he comes today
as was his decree

In the distance
she espies the sails
The ship moving at a clip
becoming clearer, getting nearer
bringing her the key

A flock of seagulls
Releasing its cacophony
Rose up around her
Its noise summoning
her sensually

Heart lifted from its
recessed pit
she mounts her steed
Galloping to the shoreline
sorrows vanish
once more carefree

Innocent

Her perfume redolent
in the night air
as she walked
to the water
alone
with ne’er a care

What was blue
had become black
with no warning
In a heartbeat
she had been knocked
on her back

Without substance
an accusation held
Lies spread
in wildfire
her dignity at risk
she was compelled

His rebuke cruel
and unfounded
confrontation inevitable
Waiting by the shore
calm and present
his demeanor unbounded

Confusion existed
stretching distance between
Eyes locked
apology offered from
him to her
she began to careen

Caught in his arms
was a natural state
The darkness lifted
memory vanished
in a flash
like it never existed

Escape To Solace

Energized by your appearance
Seduced by your presence
Captured by your perseverance
Awakened by your caress
Passion aroused with your finesse
Excellence achieved by your experience

Taken by your curiosity
Overwhelmed with your generosity

Surrounding me with perfection
Overpowering me with your protection
Luring me to that special place
Astounding me with your charms
Carrying me in your arms
Escaping to the quantum of solace

Life Patterns

Two lost souls wandering
Life had broken the heart
Born same place and time, yet
Three thousand miles apart

Opposites in every which way
Growing and learning
Fighting life’s battles
All the while yearning

Affection withheld
When so desperately needed
Tricked by those convincing them
To go there unheeded

In disguise to dupe
Love appeared from the blue
Confusing and manipulating
Never proving to be true

Love was a weakness
It was an Achilles heel
Difficult to hold on to
Like a slippery eel

Pain and torture
Of trying again and again
Handing out life’s résumé
Never knowing when

Some would turn on the crazy
Never knowing what you’d get
Hokey-pokey relationships
You’re in, you’re out, never a duet

To embrace the notorious game
Somehow continuing to look
Knowing each other was out there
Until discovered by hook or by crook

So similar were the life patterns
They were smitten instantly
Their pieces came together
Fitting each other beautifully

Bodies and minds now intertwined
Looking back at the past
Coming from different worlds
And celebrating together at last

Memories

Memories

She said she would be there
As she had promised
I couldn’t wait to see her
One thing about her
She was always honest

A summer day
In a daisy filled meadow
My grandmother and favorite Teddy Bear
Were my most special guests
And we all wore our best chapeaux

We called it the Teddy Bear Picnic
A regular event of memories to cherish
A day to look forward to
So I would forget the hell at home
That was always so nightmarish

We would sit on a blanket
And set out the tea things
She would bring homemade cake
With little sandwiches
And we would pretend we saw fairy rings

We would pick wild flowers
To take home and put in a jar
Play hide and seek in the woods
And sing songs on the way home
So I wouldn’t fall asleep in the car

She was my saving grace
So loving and deep
The warmth of her arms
Encircling me
Are memories I will always keep

The mainstay of my life
She kept the wolf from my door
Giving me safe haven
And a constant source
Of love which does not ignore

Love is an Ocean – Poem of the Month – June 2018

Love is an Ocean

Love is an ocean
That does not stop at the shore
It is fluid and full of motion
Able to ebb and flow and more

It covers and cleanses
It heals and repairs
Exposing natural beauty
It discovers and shares

It embraces and buoys
Those who enter
It carries and at times it drowns
It also gives life in its splendor

It shelters and provides
All who dare to dive in
Nourishes and sustains
Those residing within

To swim in its waters
Throwing caution to the winds
May you experience the ecstasy
As that moment begins

Before being castaway
On a distant shore
Where you learn to swim again
As you did before
