Dirty Laundry

Dirty Laundry

Today my heart is heavy
Carrying the burden of you
Your pursuit of winning
no matter the cost
Leaving me not knowing what to do

You have sacrificed us
with no thought of consequence
Manipulating the truth
In glory of your own ego
To the point of dominance

The self-indulgent splurge
on your version of the facts
Leaving me shocked
from my senses
Like a blow from an axe

Since the inception of us
I knew the monster was there
A damaged soul
needing comfort
and round the clock care

Living in an alternate reality
Where enemies are everywhere
A dystopian society
Confusing the innocent
With those who don’t care

Pouring dirt on the pristine
love that we had
You have sullied
something beautiful
I’m left wounded and sad

At the point of no return
We are at an impasse
Like dogs chasing their tails
Going forever in circles
This time we will not surpass

Song Lyric Sunday – New

Today’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt from Helen Vahdati is “New”. I have chosen something from one of my favorite present day artists, Alicia Keys. it is her anthem, New York. I hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics - New York

Ooh, New York
Ooh, New York

Grew up in a town
That is famous as a place of movie scenes
Noise is always loud
There are sirens all around
And the streets are mean
If I can make it here
I could make it anywhere
That's what they say
Seeing my face in lights
Or my name in marquees found down on
Broadway

Even if ain't all it seems
I got a pocket full of dreams

Baby, I'm from New York!
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York!
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it for New York!
(New York, New York, New York)

On the avenue
There ain't never a curfew, ladies work so hard
Such a melting pot
On the corner selling rock
Preachers pray to God
Hail a gipsy cab
Takes me down from Harlem to the Brooklyn Bridge
Someone sleeps tonight
With a hunger for more then an empty fridge

I'm going to make it by any means
I got a pocket full of dreams

Baby I'm from New York!
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York!
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it for New York!
(New York, New York, New York)

One hand in the air for the big city
Street lights, big dreams, all looking pretty
No place in the world that can compare
Put your lighters in the air
Everybody say
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Yeah, yeah, yeah!

New York
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York!
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it for New York!

Abstract Thoughts

Abstract Thoughts

My thoughts today
will be abstract
Deliciously twirling
freedom to diffract

Temptation will not come
I see only light
Colors swirling
a rainbow of delight

Escaping the prison
of my own mind
Promising freedom
from the confined

Floating weightlessly
Across the sky looking down
Reminding myself
It is there I could drown

Escaping responsibly
Holding on to my words
Flying like an eagle
At peace with the birds

Eyes Wide Open – Week #25

Good morning! I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas holiday.

My week was busy with the usual preparations in the kitchen, making delicious food and loving my family, just like many of you. It was good, however, to get out in nature and exercise a little. Christmas always entices us to eat much more than we would normally! Here are some photos I captured this week on my iPhone.

Have a great Saturday!

Pretty White Heron let me get close to take this pic

A neighbor has bird feeders that attract these beautiful green Parrots. On this day there were so many and I scared a lot away trying to take this photo

I love this park by the Bay. There are so many places to walk, sit, lay in a hammock or hang out at the Tiki Bar. Sometimes I do all of those!

Sometimes don’t you just want to sail away somewhere?

Oranges just about ripened. Ready for the picking!

I may have shared these before but I just love these Banyan trees

Dreams

Dreams

Once when things were perfect
We would fantasize hilariously
Make up stories deliriously
Listing every aspect
To live in that cottage by the sea

We had a goal in sight
Our plans were not nebulous
Nothing we did was tenuous
For what we wanted we would fight
If anything, we were fastidious

Our life full of adventure
Dreaming boldly and big
Until you acted like a pig
Wanting release from indenture
Our love story snapped like a twig

Dreams dashed and broken
But only temporarily
I made a decision arbitrarily
Another word never spoken
I now live in that cottage by the sea

Cloud Cover

Cloud Cover

A cover of darkness
Across the evening sun
Clouds forming shadows
A look of linen homespun

Grey lined with silver
A token resistance
To the black blanket’s
Impending persistence

Magnificent painted sky
A kaleidoscope of watercolors
Each evening a different palette
To guide home the sailors

Puffed and looking weightless
Providing shade when in motion
Sometimes crying with rain
Giving to the earth with devotion

The ever-changing canvas
of clouds in their splendor
To be a prisoner of their beauty
I would gladly surrender

End – Poem of the Month – January 2019

End

Evening touches the last light
Before it covers in its darkness
My heart swathed in mourning threads
and face paralyzed in hardness

In the end they say it is black
This must surely be where I am
The birds do not sing
nor do I hear the bleat of a lamb

I feel only numbness
Immobilized with no direction
Hearing your words echoing in my ears
and their cruel inflection

I am a broken woman
Laying in pieces at your feet
A heap of something that once was
Your destruction complete

Before others we plighted our troth
An oath to be faithful and true
Our love an ocean not stopping at the shore
If only we knew

Your demons buried deep inside
Were still alive and well
Once the lid was open
Only time would tell

They had festered in their morbid coffin
Poison slowly growing in wait
A corpulent beast ready to explode
Once you opened the gate

I am now frozen in time
Your love was detrimental to my being
I lay slowly dying from the toxins
Your final gift is freeing
