One Liner Wednesday – Full of Air

The makers of snacks have us over a barrel. We know, and they know, that every time we put down a lot of money for a bag of their potato chips, they will always win the gamble of how many chips will actually be in the bag. When did you last open a bag of chips and think, wow! Look at all the chips I got in this bag. Unfortunately chips are not something you can rustle up quickly yourself for a snack or make as a grab and go item for a lunch box. They have us where they want us …. Addicted!

For Linda G. Hill’s One Liner Wednesday

The Air That I Breathe

The Air That I Breathe

Breathing tentatively taking in air slowly
Allowing oxygen to travel to the brain
Steadying, remembering
Words form on quivering lips and the sound
of a shaky voice fills the dark and vacant room
Coming slowly at first but as air
is taken deep into lungs
The monochrome space becomes technicolor
and I am muzzled no more

Sarah is hosting D’Verse Poets tonight and she has promoted us with the
four elements, Fire, Air, Water and Earth.

Innocent

Her perfume redolent
in the night air
as she walked
to the water
alone
with ne’er a care

What was blue
had become black
with no warning
In a heartbeat
she had been knocked
on her back

Without substance
an accusation held
Lies spread
in wildfire
her dignity at risk
she was compelled

His rebuke cruel
and unfounded
confrontation inevitable
Waiting by the shore
calm and present
his demeanor unbounded

Confusion existed
stretching distance between
Eyes locked
apology offered from
him to her
she began to careen

Caught in his arms
was a natural state
The darkness lifted
memory vanished
in a flash
like it never existed
