Anger is the fortress
protecting you
Words weaponized
Becoming knives
Wielded in fury
Slashing the air
Until they reach
their target
and blood is drawn
Your victim shrivels
as breath is sucked
from the life of love
Once held
as a gift to you
in her open hands
Now in powdered ash
Slipping through
grasping fingers
If only you could see
beyond the fear
She is your armor
Protecting you
with moral obligation
To love you
and keep you safe
But blindness
remains your disability

Armor – A Quadrille

Sealed tight
like a drum
Nothing gets in
or out
It cannot be undone
That’s the way
it became
When deciding
to forsake our love
leaving me in shame
Coming upon me
a brazen charmer
Knowing now
there is no crack
in my armor

De Jackson, aka Whimsy Gizmo is
hosting Monday Quadrille at
D'Verse Poets tonight and has
prompted us to write a quadrille
with the word 'Crack'

A Quadrille is a poem of exactly
144 words excluding the title
