I See A Red Door …

I See A Red Door …

 Red is for danger
 so beware
 You would enter
 this door,
assuming you could even reach it,
 at your own risk

If I were to let you in
it would be by invitation only
 On my terms
 I would control your entry
 from the inside
 No coming and going
 as you please

I do not know you well
 and I no longer trust

 So be it

and she has prompted us with minimalist photography using photos
provided by fellow poet and photographer Glenn Butkus. Check out
his amazing photos on the D'Verse page. I chose the Red Door for my poem

Handle With Care

Handle With Care

Would that we walk this earth with care labels
Visible on the outside that others might see
and know how we might be treated with care
To handle some as delicate with a gentle touch
Leaving to air dry in peace
and others with high heat and a heavy hand
Perhaps a warm iron if necessary
We come without a handbook
of parts and assembly
Many times with fragile contents
and missing hardware
Who could understand how we are made up
and which piece should fit where

Lift the memory carefully from the mind

         Caution: edges may be sharp
Place carefully away from harsh words
         said without thought or empathy
         as object could easily damage

Balancing Act

Balancing Act

Walking a tightrope

Above the minefields

of your existence

I throw caution to the wind

Up here I may fall

A path of least resistance

Melancholy thoughts

And depressing actions

Separate us by degrees

Refusing to let go

Clinging to air

I’m an artist of trapeze

Remaining in limbo

With no safety net

Patiently waiting

Self-indulgent proclivities

Keep us apart but

My danger liberating

Love is an Ocean – Poem of the Month – June 2018

Love is an Ocean

Love is an ocean
That does not stop at the shore
It is fluid and full of motion
Able to ebb and flow and more

It covers and cleanses
It heals and repairs
Exposing natural beauty
It discovers and shares

It embraces and buoys
Those who enter
It carries and at times it drowns
It also gives life in its splendor

It shelters and provides
All who dare to dive in
Nourishes and sustains
Those residing within

To swim in its waters
Throwing caution to the winds
May you experience the ecstasy
As that moment begins

Before being castaway
On a distant shore
Where you learn to swim again
As you did before
