Lover’s Legacy

Lover’s Legacy

I bury my face in your shirt
Smelling your cologne
Still lingering on the fabric
Laundered clean since then
Yet you are there touching my senses
The ritual almost tantric

Coffee brewing in the pot
Kitchen filled with a glorious aroma
Morning smells familiar of you
Fresh baked bread and soft butter
Roses picked fresh from the garden
Sweet and fragrant still covered in dew

If love had a scent
It would bear your name
Your essence is omnipresent
Each room I wander into
Provoking memories of you
But you are now absent

As always lost in my reverie
Dreaming of what we once had
and wondering why it went wrong
Did I become invisible by loving you
And you could no longer see me
Or did you never quite belong

Date

Date

Early morning light
Streaks through the curtain
Another day dawning
That’s all that is certain

Sarah lies in her bed
Remembering what occurred
The events of the previous night
Have left her somewhat disturbed

“What happened?” she thought
Everything was going so great
Andrew was delightful
Considering it was a blind date

They had gone to a restaurant
For an early dinner and talk
Then a movie to follow
And a stroll on the boardwalk

Andrew had become romantic
And leaned in to kiss
She reciprocated the action
It was a moment of bliss

It lasted just a moment
And then he doubled over in pain
What was the problem?
She could not ascertain

After some endless moments
Sarah realized what was amiss
He’d eaten the lamb curry
It wasn’t the kiss

The hospital emergency room
Was where they eventually parted
They likely wouldn’t meet again
Dating is not for the faint hearted

I am a Rock

I am a Rock

This small round stone
Has warmed in my hand
It is smooth and colorful
From where did it come?
Perhaps the hinterland

How did it get here?
Who has held too?
Was it part of something
much bigger
Or just a rock in the fescue?

Energy from the pebble
Is soothing my soul
I am connected to nature
At peace with myself
And feeling ultimately whole

Take a Seat

Recently I have been quite taken with different benches and possible seating areas that I have come across.  I have been photographing them thinking I might like to share them sometime, and today I came across a photo challenge called “Pull up a Seat”  How about that!  These photos are in response to XingfuMama Challenge

Dragon

The monster reared
his head once more
His flaming mouth
scorching my words
before they became sound

I lay singed and tortured
while he continued with
his flaring assault
Blinding anger has taken
over his body
I am melting on the ground

Silenced by his cruelty
helpless and unable
to stand up to him
I save my words in my mind
they will not be forgotten
One day I will be able to expound

3-2-1 Challenge – Emojis v Words

Originally the brain child of A Guy Called Bloke , I thank Kristian  from Tales from the Mind of Kristian for inviting me to participate in another 3-2-1 Challenge.  Please check out his site and read some super short stories and poems.

The Rules of the Challenge are as follows:

Thank the Selector

Post 2 quotes for the dedicated Topic of the Day.

Select 3 bloggers to take part in ‘3.2.1 Quote Me!’

Just a few days ago, July 17, was World Emoji Day so today’s 3-2-1 Challenge Word “Expression” was timely. Love them or hate them, we all seem to use them!

When we used to write real letters, they were heartfelt and our words were used wisely so there was no misunderstanding.  We cherished them, reread them, tied them in ribbons and saved them in shoeboxes.  I still have some of mine and spent an hour a few weeks ago going through them again.  It made for a very special moment bringing back lots of memories.

These days, unfortunately, we rarely write letters on paper.  We squash our words into emails, texts and twitter, limiting what we actually want to say.  Just to be sure we don’t upset, offend or hurt the recipient of the literary masterpiece, we add emojis here and there to express ourselves so they will hopefully understand our social media shorthand.   I am as guilty of it as anyone else but I think it’s really quite 😥.

Being a tactile person I have always enjoyed paper, books, written materials, that I can touch and smell, and loved writing and receiving letters.  Fortunately I still can do that.  I hope they don’t disappear too soon!

Here are a couple of expressions, not emojis, that amuse me and I share them with you.

I nominate the following bloggers.

J-Dub

Poetry From The Inkwell

Ishaisms

This is challenge of choice and you do not have to respond by any deadline or you don’t have to participate at all.

It’s all just good fun! 😊👍✌️

Enjoy your day!

The Old Tower

It was an easy amble along the cliff top until they could see the old tower standing majestically overlooking the cove.

As they approached, the ruins of the old abbey came into full view and the memory of childhood adventures came rushing back, like a tidal wave, into Joanna’s mind.  They were such happy times.  It was always the three of them.  Joanna, Mindy and Steven.  The Three Musketeers – all for one, one for all.  They had been inseparable.  Mindy looked at Jo and they both smiled, knowing each other’s thoughts as if they were their own.  It had always been that way.

The large oak door to the tower was noticeably open as they scrambled up the hill.  The wind whipping their long hair around their faces making it hard to see where they were going and the sun was bright in their eyes.

They could make out a silhouette in the doorway.  At first glance Mindy thought it was Steven and called out his name. There was no response.  As they got closer they could see that it wasn’t. A man, probably around the same age as Steven was smiling at them in a friendly, welcoming way.

“Hello there” he said, holding out his hand.  “My name is Charles Webster and I represent the owner of this property”

Joanna and Mindy stopped in their tracks, surprised and confused.

“What?” Said Joanna.  “I…. l don’t understand”

She continued, “The ruins, and the land it is on, is owned by the village”

“Yes, that’s right”, blurted out Mindy.  “Do you have some identification?

Charles Webster, Solicitor, produced his business card.

“What is going on here?”  Said Mindy. “Are you some kind of shark?”

“This property has been owned by the village of Glen Cove for three centuries.  It would never be sold”

“I’m sorry but it has” Charles Webster contradicted her.

Both Joanna and Mindy were beginning to be visibly upset.  This was supposed to be a happy reunion of the three childhood friends at their most cherished place.  They had played on the ruins of the old abbey for many summers, pretending and dreaming.  Living out fantasies of damsels in distress calling from the top of the tower to the gallant knight down below.  Other times, Steven pretending to be Friar Tuck and the girls taking turns at being Maid Marian or Robin Hood.

Joanna walked away and was silent for a long time.  These were the happiest times of their lives and most likely whoever had purchased the property would raze everything to the ground and build some obnoxious looking, oversized house dominating the coastline.  How could this happen without them knowing?  Why hadn’t their families or someone in the village let them know what was going on?  She realized sadly the only thing that is inevitable is change and if that was the way it was going to be, there was nothing they could do about it.

She walked back to where she had left Mindy and the Solicitor.  “Ok”, said Joanna eventually to Charles Webster.  “Who exactly do you represent?”

At that moment, the large oak door was pulled open and Steven stepped out.

“Surprise!” He said gleefully.  The girls stood there mouths open in shock.

Steven continued, “There was no way this wonderful place was ever going to be sold to a developer.  The village needed the cash and I made sure they got it and their history and our memories are preserved.”

“Charlie and I had you going there for a while didn’t we?” he said wickedly, winking at his friend.  Typical of Steven

The three old friends hugged each other and through their tears of joy they chimed.

“All for one, one for all”
