Flowing Free – Poem of the Month – July 2023

Flowing Free – A Quadrille

As inevitable as change
it would come
After a hard, frozen winter
Tears of sadness cascaded
in a melting waterfall
of cathartic release
All good things sullied by spite
and left to drown in the river of hope
Now, finally flowing fast and free

Shift in the Status Quo – A Quadrille

Shift in the Status Quo

Sensing a shift in the status quo
Ever so slight but I read you well
Having been here before
At first it was devastating
The beginning of the end
Now after weathering the storms
that are named for you
I go with the flow

Moonstruck – A Haibun

The moon appears in stages reminding us of life and our ever-changing journey.  At the start of this year I made decisions that will affect my life moving forward.  Pumped by my resolve the path was clear for me.  I expected resistance and experienced some bumps on the road to what I call my rediscovery

This Friday I will reach a milestone marking the end of the the first part of the endeavor.  I stopped to smell the roses on the way and realized that anything is possible when you want it bad enough.

So look up and let the moon guide you in stages. Be brave, be strong, and most importantly, always be you!

Wish upon a star
As you gaze up at the moon
Your dreams will come true

Embracing Change – A Quadrille

Embracing Change

Unlike in our youth
change comes quickly now
Ability to choose
overridden by health
and age
Geography playing its part
as family concerns escalate
Learning to embrace
whatever comes
difficult but necessary
What goes around,
comes around,
as moving forward
is the only option

Change – Quadrille

Change

A change is as good as a rest
and the Leopard can’t change his spots
A change in the weather
is like changing your socks

You can change your tune
and change your mind
Now isn’t that strange
The only thing inevitable
is change

Rules Change

Rules Change

When did you stop caring
Wondering how your actions
and all the distractions
would ultimately affect me

So caught up in your own drama
Impossible to see another’s pain
Blinded by your own disdain
This is not how it should be

Putting my feelings in boxes
As if that’s where they belong
Expecting me to play along
Yet you threw away the key

You have become a caricature
An ugly distorted likeness
Our relationship is now in crisis
Your indulgence being free

You have become such a fool
Creating a tradition
and showing no contrition
There will be no more you and me
