Clouds

Clouds

The flocculent clouds

Puffed in the sky

Like giant marshmallows

Tempting the eye

The wind carrying them east

Beyond the line of vision

Dividing the horizon

With a precise incision

The sun covered momentarily

A showing of prediction

To only reappear

With courage of its conviction

As twilight arrives

At its recommended time

Nature’s shift begins

Its internal rhyme

Market

Market

From the mouths of children
Breathing white smoke
The chill of the day already
Covered by an invisible cloak

As if filled with tears
The gathering dark clouds
Ready to burst with rain
Over the swelling crowds

Sounds of the street
As day fills with life
Echo in the cold winds
That can slice like a knife

The sonorous voice
Of an eager hawker
Selling his wares as
Patrons offer tender

Bundled citizens hunched over
With faces as red as roses
Braving the bitter cold
With dripping noses

Hirsute dogs straying
Amongst the throng
Looking for scraps
As the day grows long

An alliance of locals
Gather at the tavern
Adopting good humor
As the moon turns silvern

Balance

Faces forming in the clouds
Evanescent in the billowing shroud
Colors brilliant at the end of the day
Pinks and blues give way to oranges and grey

Salty spray upon the face
Murmuring waves rolling without a trace
Windblown feathers of the hawk
Spirits of the ocean talk

Energy of the water runs deep
Crying souls succumbed to final sleep
Undulating strength of a million years
Cumulating in a sea of tears

Ancient trees stand witness to it all
Ringed with age, strong and tall
Mountains jagged and insurmountable
Standing close and almost touchable

Beauty abounds but at what cost
Take it now it will soon be lost
Reenergize the human being
This life of yours is worth living

Chakras tell the story
Where you might lose your glory
Balance life as nature does perfect
Or suffer the consequential effect

Redemption – Poem of the Month – July 2018

Redemption

The morning star
Still visible in the early sky
A whisper of a breeze stirs the bushes
Releasing a butterfly

Big, lazy drops of rain
Fall dampening my hair
A dog barks in the distance
Under someone’s back stair

A cardinal sits high on a branch
Capturing the essence in his morning song
Squirrels squeak their messages
As if to play along

A plethora of flowers drink the rain
Puddles waiting to evaporate
Sunshine hiding inside clouds
Ready for the drops to dissipate

Raising my arms to the sky
I unfold the origami of my limbs
Stretching, hands open to the universe
And send up my sins

Another new day is here
Another chance for redemption
My thoughts become clear
As I witness the sun’s ascension

Gratitude warms my body
I know I have been blessed
The sun reflects the raindrops
And a rainbow manifests
