One Liner Wednesday – There’s Nothing Like A Dog

If you have a dog or a cat you will understand where I am coming from. I talk to my dogs all day long as if they were people. When I walk them they listen to my problems. I ask them what they are doing and tell them that I have things to do. Sit down! and Come! Let’s go! and Not now! Remarkably they respond to everything I say, not always what I want, but they respond. So when I found this one (two) liner I knew I had to share it. In my opinion there is nothing like a dog.

Have a great Wednesday and love your dogs.

For Linda G. Hill’s One Liner Wednesday

It’s A Dog’s Life

It’s A Dog’s Life

I follow as a puppy
to the ends of the earth,
loving unconditionally
and forgiving all your sins
My time here is
to please only you

You smile at my idiosyncrasies
Scratching your head
at what I do
Whether I chase my tail
trying to find the answers
or digging and digging
away at something
until I reach China

I hope like me you will one day
sniff out what’s new and different
and travel with the windows down
once in a while
and never, ever hold a grudge
We have so much to learn
from each other
but one thing we will never do
is bite the hand that feeds us

Kim at Writing in North Norfolk is hosting D'Verse Poets
tonight and has prompted us with writing a poem in the first person
that compares some trait of ours with something animal.
It should not be a whale, but another creature (mammal, fish, bird,
insect, etc.) with which we have something in common. The title
should be the animal thing, in the same way Marjorie Saiser chose
‘The Print the Whales Make’.

Blackout

Blackout

Two black dogs
pulling me forward
The sensation in my head
was fuzzy
My direction wavered
to the left
to the right
to the left again
Can I make it across the bridge?

I was flying
on the back of a dolphin
The ride was thrilling
until the descent
to ground
Gravel in my knees
stinging
as I stared
at the dog collar
minus one dog

Not a dream
but light headedness
and blackout
Kissing the pavement
before sending me
to la-la land
One patient dog
sitting
The other wrestled free
and ate the grass

Grace is hosting D’Verse Poets tonight and has prompted us with Stream of Consciousness writing. She explains that basically, its purpose is to emulate the passage of thought through your mind without any inhibitors. For that reason, sentences become longer, less organized and more sporadic in style. Its lack of structure is not for everybody, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any order. Stream of consciousness permits deeper patterns of order to emerge, ones based on the genuine movement of information in your brain.

Market

Market

From the mouths of children
Breathing white smoke
The chill of the day already
Covered by an invisible cloak

As if filled with tears
The gathering dark clouds
Ready to burst with rain
Over the swelling crowds

Sounds of the street
As day fills with life
Echo in the cold winds
That can slice like a knife

The sonorous voice
Of an eager hawker
Selling his wares as
Patrons offer tender

Bundled citizens hunched over
With faces as red as roses
Braving the bitter cold
With dripping noses

Hirsute dogs straying
Amongst the throng
Looking for scraps
As the day grows long

An alliance of locals
Gather at the tavern
Adopting good humor
As the moon turns silvern

Nature’s Gift

The cooling breeze was welcome
An antidote to the sweltering day
Giving way for an enjoyable walk
Along the front of the bay

Pelicans sitting on the pilings
Watching the fish brought from the boats
Patiently waiting for scraps
To guzzle down their throats

Rounding the marina
Observing the luxury on display
A family posing for pictures
On their own special day

Dogs being walked
Children playing on the grass
Couples picnicking on blankets
Champagne drunk from cut glass

Kayaks traversing the water
Paddle boarders staying upright
Sails blocking the low sun
As day prepares for night

Seagulls emphatically cawing
Only they know at whom
Food has probably been espied
A plan of action one assumes

Some dolphins frolic off the shore
Arcing in the water
Flipping the fish they play with
As I continue my saunter

Energy from the water
Is calming to the mind
A day full ups and downs
The stresses left behind

As the sun drops on the horizon
I give thanks for the therapy
A healing balm
Nature provides for free
