Your temper defines you and you have become its slave At these times no one can reach you to calm the devil’s fire raging out of control Love no longer douses the scorching hot flames of your anger Copyright © 2021 Christine Bolton - Poetry for Healing All Rights Reserved Stream of Consciousness - Hot

Covered in cotton candy
A sticky web of remnants
of your constant vitriol
and a lifetime of resentments
I have become a victim
The lethargy of my depression
Slowly descending, delivering me
Into your aggression
Unable to heal your inner child
Only you can avenge your misery
Take responsibility for that which you
Put out in the world, causing injury
Uneasy in your presence
Fearful of your lashing fury
No more free passes
You must be your own jury
Hopeful for a path to take you away
From your addiction to your past
Uncomprehending the damage
You have done, leaving me aghast
Cruelly and constantly raking me
Over the emotional coals
Manipulating and threatening
Until you take my soul
Your mea culpa always too late
Empty words, save your breath
Delivering too many sucker punches
It has become a living death
Space between us can stop the wheel
There is no mystery to solve
Oil on the fire continues to inflame
We must begin to disinvolve

An electric shock
Caused my body to quiver
His touch had made me shiver
An Involuntary reaction
To this unplanned meeting
A coincidence worth repeating
The fire began to burn within me
Hoping it was in him too
I was feeling quite the shrew
Igniting each other’s flame
Was it the start of something special
Or could he turn out to be the devil
We won’t know unless we perform
The traditional mating dance
Oh please just let me have a chance

In Response to Victoria hosting tonight’s Prompt at DVerse Poets Pub – Fire
I love your gentleness
Even though I see your fire
You are a wounded soul
Who fights
I feel your ire
Rugged exterior
But silently brooding
Your spirit bruised
Its power immense
But always eluding
Your head
is lit by the moon
Your heart
darkened by the storms
Your body has been hewn
Let me heal you
Protect you from harm
Light the way
Out of the tunnel
And your enemies disarm

The sound of your voice
Lingers in my head
Your words carved in stone
Like a gravestone for the dead
Breath caught between
My lungs and throat
Leaving me speechless
With no sound to emote
Encircling me as you fire
your ammunition
Not yet triumphant
Until my dissolution
Vex until prey exhausted
Seeing the fear in my eyes
Continue your blasting
Ever a reason to chastise
Always the possibility
Your feelings would turn
Ultimately rejecting me
Like the proverbial worm
An irritation to your delicate self
My face no longer fits your picture
I’m not stroking your ego
Nor resembling your descriptor
Drowning my livelihood
In the sea of your discontent
Regarded as your property
Finding a way to circumvent

A fearless warrior
Alone in her plight
Fighting for their existence
No one to help her and the child
Determined to go the distance
She walked through fire
but was not burnt by it
She circled her wagons
With her never ending fury
She slayed the dragons
She would fight tigers
For she was a mother
Crossing her you cannot afford
For the life of her daughter
She would fall on her sword

In response to: Reena’s Exploration Challenge Week #48
Using the line She walked through fire but was not burnt by it
Fire and water
We travel through it by far
As much as I douse your flames
You continue to spar
Paralyzed by your words
Cold and cruel, you are an animal
Each one a mind blowing zing
And you claim to be rational
Your criticisms are unfounded
They are unkind and heartless
Where is your filter?
But you proceed regardless
Saying whatever you want
Irrespective of the effect
If I try to distract you
Your voice will inflect
It hurts and you are aware
But it doesn’t stop you
Never apologizing
Your behavior is askew
For the pain you inflict
I don’t know you anymore?
Not recognizing who you’ve become
I feel cut to the core
Our communications escalate
To a level that is dangerous
Your false accusations
Are downright traitorous
You are determined to compete
I have become your arch rival
To you I practice cognitive dissonance
But in reality it is my survival
