The Climb

The Climb

The climb steep
and laborious
Each footstep
begged the question
Why?
A decision
not made lightly
Thought given
carefully
knowing a price
would be paid
for overworked
extremities

When not one
more breath
could be drawn
Nor one more
bead of sweat
would dampen
the skin
the terrain changed
The pinnacle
had been reached
and the vista a sight
for sore eyes
and limbs

A carpet
of purple heather
Regal in color
and luxurious
in its density
Swaying gently,
leaning into
the summer wind
A gasp of surprise
Aches and pains
a distant memory
as the prize
is claimed

Terrain

Terrain

Gorse covered mountains

Heather of purple tangled

In between craggy rocks

Just to please the eyes

Kaleidoscope of shapes and colors

Lingering memories the prize
