In Limbo – A Quadrille

In Limbo

That longed for moment when sleep comes
Taking you from that state of limbo
where emotions are tethered
and toy with your mind

You submissively slip into slumber
allowing the heart to finally rest
Until dreams come
and you wake in a different realm

The Neutral Zone

The Neutral Zone

There was a sadness
enveloping her
that could not be shaken
She knew why
and could not share
for it would be mistaken

It was always there
just below the surface
A pool of emotions
One comment delivered
the wrong way
could spark an explosion

The neutral zone
in a divided family
The burden heavier by the day
Allowing others their comfort
While hers was ignored
Gnawing and clawing away

Suspended in limbo
Going neither this way or that
Appeasing each side
Tears shed only in private
Good for everyone, when
her feelings she’d hide

Not having a solution
for the awful predicament
She let it ride
One day someone
would notice
how hard she tried

An inability to be forthright
with the parties involved
Her plight repressive
Fearful to alienate
those she loved
Her symptoms now depressive

Suspended

Suspended

That space in-between
Neither awake nor sleep
waiting, suspended
in limbo
Yearning for the deep

The mind in overdrive
unable to calm
tossing and turning
the body contorting
What medicine will calm?

Imagination racing
Should I count some sheep?
say numbers backwards?
I tried all of the above
and did drift to sleep

Balancing Act

Balancing Act

Walking a tightrope

Above the minefields

of your existence

I throw caution to the wind

Up here I may fall

A path of least resistance

Melancholy thoughts

And depressing actions

Separate us by degrees

Refusing to let go

Clinging to air

I’m an artist of trapeze

Remaining in limbo

With no safety net

Patiently waiting

Self-indulgent proclivities

Keep us apart but

My danger liberating
