Lost Dog

Lost Dog

The frost was nipping at my toes

So I knew how cold he was feeling

The lone, collarless dog by the lamp post

was undoubtedly shivering

I looked in the store windows

and scanned newspaper classifieds

Looking for Lost Dog pleas

Hoping to make someone gratified

I talked to passers by

and made some calls

there was no luck to be had

I was hitting brick walls

The dog looked up at me

with his sad doleful eyes

I picked him up holding him tight

and walked home with my star prize

This poem should warm your heart. Today’s Word Prompts got me thinking about all the stray dogs out there in ghastly winter weather.  Bless them.  I hope they find shelter ❤️

Song Lyric Sunday – Lost

Good Morning!

Helen Vahdati’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt is Lost. I thought of Steely Dan and Ricky Don’t Lose That Number and went to Youtube to look for the video.  Before doing so I did a quick search for “Lost” songs and came across this one called Lost Boy by Ruth B. It is from her debut album Safe Haven in 2016.  I had not heard it before but was totally mesmerized by her voice and the poetic lyrics.

I hope you enjoy it.  Have a great Sunday!

Lost Boy

by Ruth B

There was a time when I was alone
Nowhere to go and no place to call home
My only friend was the man in the moon
And even sometimes he would go away, too

Then one night, as I closed my eyes
I saw a shadow flying high
He came to me with the sweetest smile
Told me he wanted to talk for awhile
He said, “Peter Pan, that’s what they call me
I promise that you’ll never be lonely, ” and ever since that day

I am a lost boy from Neverland
Usually hanging out with Peter Pan
And when we’re bored we play in the woods
Always on the run from Captain Hook
“Run, run, lost boy, ” they say to me
Away from all of reality

Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free
Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free

He sprinkled me in pixie dust and told me to believe
Believe in him and believe in me
Together we will fly away in a cloud of green
To your beautiful destiny
As we soared above the town that never loved me
I realized I finally had a family
Soon enough we reached Neverland
Peacefully my feet hit the sand
And ever since that day

I am a lost boy from Neverland
Usually hanging out with Peter Pan
And when we’re bored we play in the woods
Always on the run from Captain Hook
“Run, run, lost boy, ” they say to me
Away from all of reality

Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free
Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free

Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy Darling
Even Captain Hook, you are my perfect story book
Neverland, I love you so
You are now my home sweet home
Forever a lost boy at last

Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy Darling
Even Captain Hook, you are my perfect story book
Neverland, I love you so
You are now my home sweet home
Forever a lost boy at last

And for always I will say

I am a lost boy from Neverland
Usually hanging out with Peter Pan
And when we’re bored we play in the woods
Always on the run from Captain Hook
“Run, run, lost boy, ” they say to me
Away from all of reality

Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free
Neverland is home to lost boys like me
And lost boys like me are free

Confusion

There are tears in my throat
Drowning my voice
Unable to surface
It has no other choice

I am emotionally catatonic
As I walk in a trance
Tripping over my own feet
Unable to advance

I steady myself
Before moving any farther
Desperately wanting to recall
What prompted my departure

Taking a giant step backwards
Trying to process events
I choke on the thoughts
Making no sense

How did I arrive here
Alone and mentally spent
Searching for answers
In a spiral of descent

I do not welcome
This confusing mystery
Another burden to carry
Adding to an unseen injury

Wandering aimlessly
With no compass to guide
I have become a lost soul
Left by the wayside

Longing

Longing through her tears
She sees the child with no fears
A vision in a dress of blue
A pretty ribbon in her hair
A photo taken with care
Capturing the early morning hue

Standing by her mother with pride
Family dog sitting on the other side
She looks lovingly at the image
Yearning for that period of purity
Representing her cherished security
A familiar landscape to envisage

Safe holding her mother’s hand
Happy to be in her wonderland
A place where someone hears her cry
The dog loved and never forgot
Colorful flowers in their pretty pots
A vivid recollection in her memory

The grass so green and mowed fresh
Sunlight peeking through gossamer mesh
Are these just ghosts from the past
That are summoned on command
To rejuvenate the soul and understand
Bringing her needed comfort at long last

Precious moments captured
Were too soon fractured
Locked in a paper memory
Bad experiences tend to stay
Happy memories fade away
Innocence remembered in a reverie

Dreams were forgotten
As lives turned rotten
With the passing of years
Happiness a lesson hard to revince
Lost in feelings unable to convince
Anything wished for just disappears

Oblivion

Wishing to feel numb
As an object floating down a river
No thoughts in my head
Luxurious indifference
Ignoring what must be considered
Until I pull the last thread

Not wanting to feel anymore
Bone and muscle crushing pain
Body aching from the anguish
Mind full of blackness
Dark thoughts of anger
Unable to vanquish

Moving in slow motion
Ignoring the sounds in my head
Careful not to experience
More of the same debilitating madness
Avoiding the inevitable outcome
Preferring one more day of tarriance

Not being able to choose who loves us
Standing open hearted and vulnerable
Selecting those who deliver misery
How low is that bar we refuse to hold high
Inevitably making it possible
For enemies to write our history

Beauty turned to ashes
Crumbled words spoken
Hearts broken into shards of glass
Amorous touches brushed away
Love murdered with malice
Ultimately arriving at an impasse

If time is an illusion
Years together count for nothing
Then what matter is the waste
If treated with disdain
Expendable thoughts, disposable feelings
All that’s left is a bitter aftertaste

Leave me in peace
To release the past
Yearning for blissful oblivion
Memories cruelly haunting
Demands that will never be met
Unable to meet your criterion

Moving forward in silence
Embracing the blindside
Avoiding each another
Are we practicing being alone
Remembering how it was
When there was no one other
