Always Different – Poem of the Month – June 2021

Always Different

Downy pink feathers
Lay on dew-drenched grass
A Roseate Spoonbill had
rested, fluffed and preened
before startled into flight
Grey-streaked sky
burnished gold with morning sun
as fading moon bids farewell
The morning chorus begins
and activity becomes feverish
Another new day has dawned
and no two are ever the same

Watercolors – Poem of the Month – March 2021

Watercolors

Silver-grey of early evening sky
shines its light on my still waters
waking me from a reverie
My sparkling diamonds dance
on gently rolling ripples
as buoyant ducks bounce

Twilight swathes me
in its purple cloth
and I wear amethyst gems
Silhouetted birds in black
fly low returning to their nests
as stillness falls in silence

The night brings an indigo blanket
adorned with sequined stars
Reflecting on my mirrored surface
Gently I rock to sleep
in the glow of a silvery moon
rising slowly in the darkness

Blue Moon – A Haibun

Blue Moon

In late September we are still in daylight savings time but since the equinox, the earlier darkness has switched up the night sky.  Now the moon is brightly lit shortly after sunset but is still hung so low you could almost reach up to touch it.

The sun too has moved its place of descent and paints the evening elsewhere on the canvas in its in brilliant pink and golden hues.

Nature is slowly nudging us towards the seasonal changes and many go willingly forwards, accepting and thankful.  Whereas I mourn long summer days where I could could live forever.

Staring at the moon
Heart-heavy and moody-blue
Another ending

Look Up There

Orion straddles the sky
His belt twinkling
Lighting the way
Stars sprinkling

A cheesy moon
at the halfway mark
The shadow of his smile
visible in the dark

Match made in heaven
A lover’s tryst
Moon and stars shine
As the earth is kissed

De Jackson, aka Whimsy Gizmo, is hosting
Monday Quadrille at D'Verse Poets. Tonight
he has prompted us with "Sky"

A Quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words
excluding the title.

This is a reworked poem of mine from several
years ago that fitted this category.
