Time to Leave – Poem of the Month – August 2020

Time to Leave

Inside a secret sorrow
Sharp stabbing pains
of a bleeding heart
Thoughts jumbled
unable to form words

Feeling drawn
to this spot
The stillness
of the water
was meant to soothe

The rambling hills
Clear air to breathe
and sadness to release
But this was not
the place to heal

Raw memories
suffocating
Longing for the ocean
and the salt life
left behind

To stare again
at pewter skies
streaked with tangerine
Waiting for a setting sun
to take away sadness

To lay in cool sand
As the night comes
Sequined stars
Dotting the sky
Calming the soul

It is time to leave

Lonely

Lonely

Fading sunlight
glowing on cool sand
A glistening ocean
reflecting light on
plumage of seagulls
Dramatic silver, against
the grey sky of dusk

Walking slowly
along the shore
thoughts of you
filling my head
Even though apart
the link between us
strengthened
by distance

Connected spiritually
but aching
for your presence
to fill the void
in my heart and
take comfort
from your touch
