Risky Business

Risky Business

In the world of love
I lived in a time of famine
Closed to receive
Focused only on raising a child
In years of wilderness
When nothing would grow
in barren fields
Unfed, undernourished, unwanted
Until
Stars aligned
and the sun kissed the earth
Not once, but twice
I stared at two suitors
Tall, handsome,
he must have made a mistake
And quirky, funny,
we talked until dawn
Now I, fed and watered,
must choose
What is the risk and reward?
I will not know
Until I do

Risk and Reward

Risk and Reward

Please do not stand on ceremony
I just want to curl up and hide
No desire to see anyone today
My brain has been fried

This was a day
That should have been pure leisure
A time to connect and participate
In each other’s pleasure

Instead we pummeled and punched
and rained on our own parade
Fighting, hurting and causing pain
Replaying the same old charade

Exhausted and spent
We go our separate ways
To heal and recover
And come back another day

Caught in the same trap
Of risk and reward
Kiss and make up
Add points on the scoreboard
