Morning Commute

Morning Commute

My journey each day
weaves my neighborhood
I choose to run
So my health is good

Home is Florida
Plenty of heat
It’s The Sunshine State
It warms the feet

Each street I run
An abundance of flowers
Elegant lawns
Summer showers

As I travel the road
The palms are swaying
Colorful houses along the water
And boats are sailing

Turn left at the end
Heading for the bridge to the key
Today it is opening
For a tall mast in the sea

Fisherman trying their luck
With bait of shrimp
Careful navigating around
So I don’t end up with a gimp

On the other side is
a small park to rest
on a welcome bench
I can sit and feel blessed

Out on the marker posts
I see the Cormorants
Wings outstretched
Drying from the currents

Some kayakers pass by
Moving seamlessly
A pelican sunning himself
On the dock peaceably

After a short rest
Its time to head home
I’ll go back a different way
A great way to roam
