When Stars are Aligned – A Quadrille

When Stars are Aligned

We lay close on cool sand
counting stars in the velvet sky
Knowing with each magical moment
we spend together
they align more perfectly
in their shining, twinkling brilliance
Love is born on this night of a thousand wishes
As the celestial show dazzles

Starlight and Stars Bright – A Haibun

I lived in Dallas, Texas when my son was young. I remember we moved out of the city into the country when he was 9 years old. The big Texas sky is never-ending and at night the stars are amazing to watch.

I remember those hot summer nights when my son would love to camp out in the back yard or we would lay in the bed of the pick up truck and gaze at the stars. Orion was always our favorite constellation and to this day, even though we don’t live in Texas anymore, we are still in the south and I love to look up and pick out Orion, the hunter with the three stars on his belt.

Merril is hosting Monday Haibun at D’Verse. She has prompted us to
“Look up” and write a Haibun about what we see.

Trail of Tears

Trail of Tears

On this night of stars
Where the velvet sky is clear
and romance is in the scented air
I look up into his face
A place where I love to linger
but my gaze is not returned
The light is gone from his eyes
His look is vacant
and his mind clearly elsewhere
He is present in body,
though absent in spirit
His heart, already taken back from me
and likely given to another
I knew then he was no longer mine
My trail of tears was his parting gift
