Mother of Pearl

Mother of Pearl

A mother of pearl sky
Overtones for the day’s finale
Coral colored horizon
burns into the sea
as the elusive green light
flashes farewell
to a surreal sunset

Fragrance of coconut
Floats on the evening air
Fading footprints
in the exsiccated sand
are taken back
by the gentle flow
of evening tide

Blue and yellow sails
fly on a lone schooner
still visible in the diminishing light
In the silence
a feeling of peace
descends on a tranquil scene
akin to paradise

In Gratitude

In Gratitude

I watch from my window
as the night begins to steal the day
pushing the smashed pumpkin sun
lower and lower into its fiery furnace

The sky glorious in majestic purple
sewn with golden threads
My heart is full at this sight
Taking my breath with its beauty

It is in these chance moments that I am grateful
for the gifts that come to me each day
I am inspired by the colors of nature’s wheel
Matching my body’s chakras
Grounding and balancing me

I live in gratitude for this day
as the night claims it birthright

Together

Together

In its final burst
of energy
the setting sun
leaves the day
with its
warmth
and glow
Taking nothing
from us
other than the
memories
it championed

With its flickering
light slipping slowly
below the horizon
the remains
of the day
gently turn
to night
A sense
of oneness
with the universe
A flicker of hope
for a better tomorrow

Color Wheel

One brushstroke of blood-orange
sweeping across the dark grey canvas
Silvery clouds framing, illustrating
the dramatic landscape

As the day comes to rest
the sky releases its final colors
in a spectacular explosion
and the view begins to reshape

Everlasting

Everlasting

In the glorious sunset
It is so easy to forget
The times of trouble
When we were so young
and how far we’ve come
from love’s young couple

We fought like cat and dog
Sometimes it was just a slog
Never thinking we’d make it
As poor as church mice
Never having anything nice
Making do with polish and spit

Somehow, we survived
Now I feel we have arrived
at our life’s destination
Stronger now than then
Finally knowing it when
it was worth the aggravation

Loving you faithfully
Accepting faults gracefully
For us we made it through
Now in the sunset of life
Grateful to still be man and wife
Really, who knew?

Eyes wide Open – Week Four

I was lucky with the weather this week.  It gave me some beautiful sunset photos and I found a few colorful things to share with you.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Sunset reflection captured in the performing arts hall

A lone Bird of Paradise

Some colorful fish decorating the side of someone’s house

A Yellow Crowned Night Heron not bothered with me at all

Pretty Spanish Moss on an Oak tree

Eyes Wide Open – Week Three

It was a hot week slowing down my running to a jog and some days mostly a walk.  So I didn’t burn as many calories but the sights captured on my iPhone more than made up for it.  One day was spent at the local Jungle Gardens.  It is a small park but they have a wonderful flock of flamingos that usually surround you begging for food.  As it was their breeding season they were completely disinterested in us.  I hope you enjoy these things I share with you when I open my eyes to my surroundings.  Nature is just beautiful.  Enjoy your Saturday!

Sunset through a sculpture

I captured the sunset through a sculpture on the bay

Flamingos and Ibis

It was breeding season for the Flamingos so they were not interested in any feeding attempts.  Two Ibis looking on.

Banyan Trees

Magnificent Banyan Trees in the neighborhood

Bridal Bouquet plant

This is Bridal Bouquet, part of the plumeria family.  Fortunately it does not shed it leaves like a plumeria so it stays lush all year round.  I had this growing at the front of my house but someone flattened it with a bike, i guess.  I rescued what I could salvage and have potted it, nursing it back to health.

Eyes Wide Open

Eyes Wide Open – Week 2

Here are a few photos taken with my iPhone while out running.  I’m making a concerted effort to capture pictures of things I would normally not stop and take in. There is inspiration everywhere in beautiful nature.  My intention is to post some photos at the end of each week.

A big thanks again to Cyranny’s Cove and her After Eight Moments for the inspiration to begin this project.  She has some great photos so be sure to check them out.

I would love to just sit on one of these very

low hung branches in the shade

What a great oak tree to have in your front yard!

I saw this Blue Heron just paddling in the pond

A beautiful sunset over the Bay

Enjoy your day and keep your eyes wide open!

Nature’s Gift

The cooling breeze was welcome
An antidote to the sweltering day
Giving way for an enjoyable walk
Along the front of the bay

Pelicans sitting on the pilings
Watching the fish brought from the boats
Patiently waiting for scraps
To guzzle down their throats

Rounding the marina
Observing the luxury on display
A family posing for pictures
On their own special day

Dogs being walked
Children playing on the grass
Couples picnicking on blankets
Champagne drunk from cut glass

Kayaks traversing the water
Paddle boarders staying upright
Sails blocking the low sun
As day prepares for night

Seagulls emphatically cawing
Only they know at whom
Food has probably been espied
A plan of action one assumes

Some dolphins frolic off the shore
Arcing in the water
Flipping the fish they play with
As I continue my saunter

Energy from the water
Is calming to the mind
A day full ups and downs
The stresses left behind

As the sun drops on the horizon
I give thanks for the therapy
A healing balm
Nature provides for free
