The plants cry their tears
When starved of your affection
Dying from neglect

Like snowflakes falling
Silently in the night
I am unaware of the beauty
About to unfold in my sight
You stand in front of me
After a lifetime of years
Memories roaring back
Bringing with them tears
Separated as teenagers
Daddy with a shotgun
A baby on the way
Our parents come undone
You travel east
And I am sent west
Never meant to be
We were told it was for the best
You served our country
Our baby was adopted
Turning away from my family
It was never what I wanted
I left them all in the past
My spirit had been broken
Living a better life alone
Another word was never spoken
Here you are now
A ghost from before
A buried secret
We could never ignore
Your smile the same
It’s as if no time had passed
The lonely years forgotten
We are together at last

Pull yourself back up
When knocked down
Keep smiling
Although your heart is breaking
Never wearing a frown
Hold back the tears
Never let them see you sweat
Choose your battles
Aware of what you can win
Always appear to be the threat
Get the attention
of those you fear most
Be a warrior
Don’t let them knock you
from pillar to post
Know when to concede
If your fervor can cause damage
There’s always tomorrow
Try again then
If it’s the best you can manage
Primal and ferocious
Is only half of the task
Courage and kindness
Is needed
Underneath that mask

In response to D’verse Poets – Because, Because, Because
I chose the Cowardly Lion for my inspiration.
There are tears in my throat
Drowning my voice
Unable to surface
It has no other choice
I am emotionally catatonic
As I walk in a trance
Tripping over my own feet
Unable to advance
I steady myself
Before moving any farther
Desperately wanting to recall
What prompted my departure
Taking a giant step backwards
Trying to process events
I choke on the thoughts
Making no sense
How did I arrive here
Alone and mentally spent
Searching for answers
In a spiral of descent
I do not welcome
This confusing mystery
Another burden to carry
Adding to an unseen injury
Wandering aimlessly
With no compass to guide
I have become a lost soul
Left by the wayside

Daily Prompts:
Longing through her tears
She sees the child with no fears
A vision in a dress of blue
A pretty ribbon in her hair
A photo taken with care
Capturing the early morning hue
Standing by her mother with pride
Family dog sitting on the other side
She looks lovingly at the image
Yearning for that period of purity
Representing her cherished security
A familiar landscape to envisage
Safe holding her mother’s hand
Happy to be in her wonderland
A place where someone hears her cry
The dog loved and never forgot
Colorful flowers in their pretty pots
A vivid recollection in her memory
The grass so green and mowed fresh
Sunlight peeking through gossamer mesh
Are these just ghosts from the past
That are summoned on command
To rejuvenate the soul and understand
Bringing her needed comfort at long last
Precious moments captured
Were too soon fractured
Locked in a paper memory
Bad experiences tend to stay
Happy memories fade away
Innocence remembered in a reverie
Dreams were forgotten
As lives turned rotten
With the passing of years
Happiness a lesson hard to revince
Lost in feelings unable to convince
Anything wished for just disappears

Fandango one word challenge: Lesson
Eyes stinging
From the salt of her tears
She sought solace
To allay her worst fears
What brought her to this point
Had her words been that obtuse
Clearly misunderstood
The reaction had bordered on abuse
The old church beckoned her
From the darkness of her soul
She entered quietly, slipping into a pew
Struggling to keep emotions under control
The silence was a medicine
Strengthening her muddled brain
The polished wood and architecture
Seemed to soothe her pain
With her head bent low
The tears she did release
Feeling the protection of this place
Wrap its arms around her offering peace
Her body shook with emotion
Sadness was overwhelming
The pain in her heart
Mercilessly unrelenting
When spent of sorrow
She allowed the silence to fall
Enveloping her body
Like a prayer shawl
Stepping into the aisle
Her hand rested on a marble column
Finding it smooth and comforting
Not austere or solemn
Walking towards the altar
She felt a presence beside her
There was no one there
But she knew it offered succor
Drawn to this sanctum for a reason
Of this she was sure
The weight on her shoulders
Was no longer there

I have searched for you
in my life
Knowing you were always there
dancing around me
but never my partner
Passing by me
invisible to the eye
So many years growing
and learning apart
Not seeing you
but knowing you
Feeling you
without your touch
Wishing for you
to hold my hand
in life
To dry my tears
Where were you?
Why did I not
know you before?
Our lives to be lived
separately
for reasons we do not know
You are the piece
that was missing
The Yang to my Yin
The start and the finish
You finally heard my cry
You have come to me
And you have
taken my heart
Replacing the emptiness
that was always there
You have filled my senses
and now
you live with my soul
