Twilight falls quietly
unexpected
What was day
comes to an end
Abruptly,
disconnected
A star is born in
the darkness
of new night
Encompassing,
brilliant in its
starkness
Stillness slows
pounding breast
Calming the mind
slowing the heart
Tranquility
sweetens the zest

As the evening sun
takes its final breath
of the day
the dappled grey sky
edged in silver
lights the way
Silhouetted birds
flying high above their
disappearing shadows
Darkness falls
and the moon rises
over flowering meadows
Cool evening air
with a gentle wind
rustling the trees
Sounds of the night
calming and comforting
A natural tease
Softly the rain comes
dampening dried earth
Paying penance to the sun
By first morning light
needed nurture complete
and the work is done
Flowers kissed with dew
reaching up to the dawn
The world awakens
Birdsong fills the air
as animals graze
The cycle unshaken

Word Prompts:
Penance
Nurture
Each day I wake
not knowing what
to expect
Will today be
comforting or
suffocating
There is no way to detect
I can sail
smooth seas
of love and tranquility
Be a recipient
of your devoted attention
and surprised
by your spontaneity
Or do we navigate a maelstrom
on this imperious
voyage to destruction
Unable to fathom
your thought process
I do drown in your rhetoric
of seduction
Anchored to your bitterness
Wishing for harmony but
sinking in your resentment
Feeling Icy fingers wrapped
around my heart
beguiled with the promise
of contentment
