What Is Love?

Sometimes beautiful and unique
A snowflake falling on your shoulder
Disappearing as quickly as it arrived
Love arrives, surprising, and wrapped in wonder

Other times it can come out of left field
landing with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer
Love comes packing a punch
Raw, with little finesse, and no negotiation

Or a slow-growing oak tree from a tiny acorn
From the spark in someone’s eye
Nurturing a delicate sapling of love
Protecting its fragility until maturity

Perhaps on the delicate wings of a butterfly
Stopping only for moments to drink love’s nectar
And leaving as quickly as it came
Short-lived but unforgettable

Love is surprising

  1. Well! How appropriate for me to write I love this! The comparisons of how we find love…the details and connections are just wonderful. I especially love the acorn analogy. I think in this way, we have a friendship that slowly evolves into love. I’ve always said, it’s really important to marry your best friend 🙂
