And The Heat Goes On

After I moved to Florida, I did not miss the changing seasons. I was quite happy to live in year-round sunshine and warmth and I was proud to own more swimsuits and flip flops than sweaters and boots. However after being here for as long as I have and as I witness more and more proof of climate change, I begin to question why I still live here. We are used to temps in the 90s but the murderous heat index has had us sweating to the equivalent of 108 for months!

Earlier this month a Tropical Storm (later a hurricane) called ‘Debby’ came right through where I live. I was ok but my son’s house nearby was flooded out and has not been habitable since. Neighbors were actually kayaking on his street as the water level was too high to drive! On the Gulf Coast we are used to hurricanes and flooding from storm surge but the amount of rainfall on that particular day has broken all records and devastated many families.

So as far as the four seasons go, this is what we have in Florida.

Spring
Summer on steroids
Hurricane season
Tourist season

I am seriously questioning why I am still here!

Autumn is hiding
Temperatures still sizzle
And the heat goes on

  1. It seems some areas have seen record heat indexes. I hope you stay cool and safe. Maybe, you stay as you don’t want to shovel snow…haha…that is never fun.

  2. I couldn’t survive in a place like Florida, Christine, with such high temperatures and the threat of hurricanes. I love my woollens and boots. I’m sorry to read about your son’s house. I prefer the four seasons over here in the UK!

  3. Oh my! I always warn people about living in Florida – it’s beguiling – especially with all it’s wonderful attributes always being touted with it’s flaws and disasters being hidden and disguises or omitted from discussion!

As a San Diego Boy I always tout San Diego – best all year round weather in the U.S., only 10 days a year on average where the sun doesn’t shine ad with out the humidity of Florida or Hawaii. So Sorry to hear about your son’s house!! The drawback to San Diego now as to in the way back is that it is expensive.

Hope you have a great day!! Are you even considering moving from Florida??

      1. Yes, family is definitely a magnet and with life being so short it might be better to suck it up to stay near and involved with family. Maybe just take some longer vacations out of state? 😊💕🌹

  4. Hi Christine, thanks for the welcome back. Since I am not on WP, I will just be popping around randomly. I loved visiting Florida when I was 13, but the hurricanes sure are scary. We have the threat of earthquakes here in California, which are also scary. Where is the ideal warm, safe place? I don’t know!

    1. Lovely to hear from you Paula. I would move to CA if I could afford to live there, earthquakes and all. LOL 😆
KDP is pretty cool isn’t it. I pretty much had my poetry collection in book form and then life got in the way and it stalled. It was a good thing. I know more now.
I found your post on a site but I had trouble logging in with Google. I may appear as anonymous until I get used to it.
Stay in touch when you can 😊💕
