Wood Storks standing straight
In a hurricane force wind
Refusing to bend

A few days ago the Category 3 Hurricane Helene came up the Gulf of Mexico along the Florida coast. We were lucky its path was not too close to the shoreline but we experienced its fierce and devastating strength as it went by. I watched three Wood Storks at the edge of the lake by my house. They were all standing to attention facing the same way in the driving wind that was ripping at the trees, yet they barely moved. It was an amazing sight. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a good photo through the window for obvious reasons, so here’s one from a warm, sunny day.
