You
How could you?
I gave you the moon and stars
And you broke the promises
we made
Our vows were forever
Me
You treated me like a slave
Talked to me with contempt
You took back gifts
Supposedly given in love
You lied to me

Lillian is hosting Monday Quadrille at D’Verse Poets Pub tonight and she has given us the word “Promise” as her prompt.
A quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words excluding the title(s). I have two as there are two sides to any promise.
Both were wrong and both were right.

Of all the strong lines…taking something back is the strongest, be it love or something tangible…I find that so culturally and morally unacceptable…
Really liked the concept of this verse, very clever, and effective…thank you so much for your lovely words on Substack, will answer today..

Thanks so much Ain. Yes like a child taking back his toys when playing in the sandbox.

It’s so different when you show both sides of a broken promise/vow. Thanks Dwight

Ah yes, the ‘vow’ conundrum. Can be quite difficult to maintain for a lifetime. A great quadrille! Thanks so much for leaving me a comment.

Broken love vows….some of the hardest to face. Takes a long time to build trust but only a moment to break it down.

Christine, the raw emotion in this poem hits hard—it powerfully conveys the pain of betrayal and the struggle for self-worth in such an honest way.

How sad that it has to end this way – broken promises and lies.

Pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that have to fit. If not then it’ll probably never work 🫤

Oh HELL NAW on taking back the gifts! What a deceptive disappointment. IIRC you kicked him to the curb a long time ago.
