Yearning

Yearning

I saw you slowly changing
From the man you used to be
The partner in my life
Now void of clemency
You no longer took prisoners
When you went to war
Trampled on the underdog
To settle any score

I invented excuses
To explain your attitude
Your combative personality
Could dampen any mood
It was a riddle to most
What happened in your head
A human conundrum
No one could ever be your stead

I pine for you my lover
Who held my heart near
Never hurting my feelings
Or giving me fear
I yearn for your homecoming
To the place you are treasured
Held safe and loved
I fear you have perished

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

    1. You are so kind. I’m so touched that you enjoy what I write. Sometimes I get a little dark but it’s all part of any process I guess. I do write humorous poetry too🙂
