If anything is worth it then we must work at it, or so I was taught. Work hard and you will live well. To love you must also work hard and sometimes it does not always bear fruit. How many of us have devoted months and years into failed relationships and marriage? We bend and twist ourselves inside out to conform to other’s desires and wishes only to realize that it was all for nothing.
This week’s prompt from D’Verse Poets asked us to include the the word Labour as it is Labour Day here in the US. My first thought was Shakespeare’s comedy, Love’s Labour’s Lost.

We work to live but
we live to love and question
when Love’s Labour’s Lost

A very different kind of work – the labour of love. Not always easy. I like your take on the prompt.

I think that love requires labor, but not all labor bears fruit… alas.

Putting in that energy and hard work is a must for any relationship to survive. If it fails despite all of these, then we must be ready to let go. It takes work to make anything work. Enjoy your week.

I so agree with you, Christine, that ‘if anything is worth it then we must work at it’, and love can be laborious.

It definitely takes BOTH sides working at a relationship…this is sad reality that sometimes labors of love are lost. But we can feel better knowing we gave our love freely.
