Never Liked You

Never Liked You

You are big and
quite beautiful
to look at
The color of your skin
can sometimes
play trickery
Fooling us to what
is inside
Shades of yellow
and sometimes
Dark red
You sound like
you know who you are
but you confuse us
with your name
You look so sweet
and tantalizing
but you are
invariably sour
and can be quite nasty
I am sad to say
that I have
never liked you
and never will
I don’t know why
others find you
so special
You might be a fruit
but you are no grape

  1. LOL I was watching a preview for a new movie on Netflix Girls Trip or something like that. Anyways the ladies are all talking and one comes out grabs a grapefruit and goes back. There is one who has no idea what is going on and neither do I when the other two ask if she has never done the grapefruit thing? As the fourth comes and gets another grapefruit. The other three are sitting there and suddenly the guy starts screaming because she had squeezed/gotten some grapefruit on his nether region. I have to watch the movie for sure but this is what your poem reminded me of. Thank you for my morning smile. 🙂

      1. Not at all. If you have Netflix search it the scene is hularious. Jada Smith (can’t spell last name) Queen Latifha and not to sure who the other two are. Looks hilarious. 😂😂😂

      2. I’m going to check that out! I meant grapefruit juice in the nether region sounded painful 😖 the movie sounds really funny!

  2. Christine your poem reminds me of a couple of Thanksgivings ago, when I made a mixed fruit salad of grapes, strawberries, apples, and yes, the dreaded grapefruit. It genuinely surprised me when nobody went near the salad. Finally, my daughter in-law, bless her heart, said, “None of us likes grapefruit.” I love the end of your poem:
    “You might be a fruit
    but you are no grape”

    1. Too funny Lisa! Living here in Florida we all have an abundance of citrus trees in our yards. Many have grapefruit trees but they cannot give the produce away. Everybody goes “oh no thank you I’ve got plenty”. Liars!!!
Lol!! I know I’m not alone.
