We Breathe As One

My brother once again
we are in this place
of pain and hurt
Nothing has changed
Will it ever?
My skin is still your skin
My blood your blood
My skeleton
a mirror of yours
Our biology identical
We breathe the same air
Our tears flow together
in a stream
of consciousness 
Our pain is shared
as we fight together
to be heard
Our colors blend
in shades of the earth
from whence we come
The anger inside me
can no longer
be suppressed
Enough is enough
for I cannot stand by
and see one more
of my brothers and sisters
taken from this world
by ignorance
hatred and brutality
Our fight must continue
We will be heard
Black Lives Matter

      1. Many of us dream of change, but there are many who like things just the way they are because it benefits them.

  3. The police are the paid enforcers of the rule of the elite. They are mandated by the overlords to keep the masses feeling fearful and terrorized. How else can the tiny percentage that rule continue to do so? As long as this setup is in place the brutality will continue. One of the best tactics used are pitting “us” vs. “them” in its myriad forms. Color against white, woman against man, white collar against blue collar, haves against have-nots, private schools against public schools, mask wearers against non-mask wearers, democrats against republicans. All diversions that take our eyes off those 5%ers that sit in their yachts and laugh while we tear each other apart.

    1. Yes Lisa thank you! You are so right. There is our president making sure those divisions not only stay in place but get deeper and wider. This is how Hitler rose to power 😡

  6. I have been watching ‘Lovecraft Country’, which opened my eyes to America’s racist past – I knew it was bad, but I had never heard of sundown towns or counties. I have seen films, read books and looked at terrible photos of racist violence, but always hoped that it would end. Your poem expresses this succinctly and powerfully, Christine.

    1. Sadly Kim it continues to be alive and well in America. 400 years on and racism is still evident. It sickens me 😢 When you have a president who promotes division and violence it will never end.

  7. Beautifully stated. Christine, and so courageously. As a black woman, I want to rant and rail against the pain and sense of helplessness that results from the times we live in, such as the president calling peaceful protestors anarchists and agitators but rallies for and speaks well of a 17-year-old whirte boy who killed two young white males protesting for change. It’s like living in the Twilight Zone! So, thank you for your bravery and your compassion, and sense of justice.

    1. I should be thanking you Regina. I cannot imagine what you must have gone through living in this country. It amazes me how much love and forgiveness you you still give after the dreadful things you have experienced. I listened to the mother of Jacob Blake and saw how articulate she was. She had an incredible resolve and an ability to rise up above her pain. Let’s just hope things will change in November for all our sakes ☺️👍❤️

  8. A powerful message! I’m so dumbfounded by the division in our country. This president brings out the worst impulses in people and stokes hatred and division. But I am most disappointed in the millions of Americans who support him and his racist tactics. Are people blind ? I fear that even if he loses in November he has empowered the white nationalist to rise up and create more civil unrest. I don’t know what the answer is and I’m usually an optimist but I’m worried about the future of this country.

    1. Yes Sue, it is all very scary and it is happening elsewhere too. I also fear that if the Dems do not win in November, and don’t manage to take back the senate, this country will not survive another 4 years of this monster in the White House. 😢

  9. I am grateful we still have wordpress to speak out our cause! For myself I see danger in both parties reds/blues. I fear we are heading for a Civil War no matter who wins!

    1. Oh let’s hope not. What we are living with is insanity but this craziness will end when people start to say “enough” in November at the polls. ☺️👍✊🏽✊

    1. When people look only at vandalism it is a cop out because they are ignoring the root of the problem which is the racism. For some reason they find it easy to ignore something so vile. I will never understand it.
